Rapinoe goal 78'

There is a hand ball violation called against China outside the box. The US team sets up a successful kick which sneaks into the right corner of the goal. Rapinoe puts a bend on the ball which appears to have bounced and then change directions and the goal keeper misread it. The other players in the box crash the goal as she kicks the ball.

US coverage during China throw in

This diagram shows how well the US defense covers during a Chinese throw in. They mark areas by zones and are very good at backing each other up. During the entire match they appear extremely organized and quick to read China's plays. As a result, they finish the match 2-0. The US team played offensively the majority of the game and set up several scoring opportunities. Although I have never seen them play this formation, it seemed to work very well against this young Chinese team. Ironically, the US coach got fired the next day. I am not sure the details, but I found it interesting since, in my opinion, they looked very fit, quick, and organized. Near the end of the game, the US made two more substitutes, Rodriguez for O'Reilly and Heath for Lloyd. They each played under 10 mins for the starters. This match was the 201st for the forward, O'Reilly.
