Organisation

Mannequin or large cone in the 4 corners of the larger square.Split group into 3 teams and give each group a couple of balls

The players with a ball start near a mannequin. They look to pass to a teammate and then follow the pass, breaking into the smaller square area.

Players without a ball start inside the smaller square area. They look for an opportunity to break out of the box and receive the ball from a teammate. On receiving the ball players dribble to a mannequin.

P = Find a mannequin which doesnt have a team mate next to it.

Encourage players to know whats arround them, can their first touch take them into space. Small touches until we can exploit the space at pace.

Learning Objectives

Gives players lots of dribbling, passing and receiving touches. Helps to develop the understanding of forward runs that can unlock goal scoring opportunities.

Organisation

Mark out pitch ( 30 x 40 ) depending on numbers may need to split into 2 groups resulting into smaller groups and pitch size. 5m End zone area at each end. Play 5v5 or 4v4 in center 2 neutral wide players who support attacking team : these are the only players allowed into wide areas.

To score teams have to recieve in oppositions end zone. However, they can not wait in end zone, player has to time run so the ball has been passed before they recieve.

Coaching Points -

Clever movements - vary direction, shape and speed of runs.

Think about timing of runs.

Communication

Could we recycle and switch play for someone to drive into the space ?

Questions

Challenges

Ind - Can you recieve to play forwards? Can you move an opponent to create space for a team mate?

Small sided game bringing all the nights learning into practice and bringing it closer to the game. Still have the channels and the end zones, 1 player of the defending team can now go into the channel when the ball is played into the wide player and challenge.

Progression

Allow 1 defending player to recover back into endzone.

Allow wide player to drive inside when space.

Allow players to rotate with the wide player

Encourage players to make forward runs and praise them when they do.

Does our first touch enable us to play forwards when there is the space? When should our first touch be tight?

Challenges

Ind - Can you break the lines with a run and have a shot on goal ?

Unit - can 2 players use combinations with a forward run to create a goal?
