Juggling Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization:

-30x40 yard grid, each Player with a ball.

Instructions:

- Players work in pairs. Set number of touches allowed. If player misplays the ball, a point is given to the other player.

-Play for a fixed time, winners move up to play a new player.

Coaching Points:

- Players try to improve their touches (suppleness, control and foot-eye coordination) by juggling with different surfaces of their feet & body.

End Zone Dribbling (20 mins)

Organization:

-Players split in half, 2 cones where teams start and 1 end zone.

Instructions:

- Teams take it in turns to try and score (dribbling through end zone) as soon as ball goes out or player scores, next pair goes.

- 10 second countdown per match.

Coaching Points:

- Get in line to receive the ball and Head up to locate goal

- Recognition of defender (speed of approach)

- Choice of which goal to attack based on defender's pressure

- Quick decision to perform move

- Head up to find goal, seal off defender after move and accelerate to goal

Progressions:

- Addition of goals

Swivel Hips (20 mins)

Organization:

-6 cones, 3 lines, 3 to 4 players per area.

Instructions:

- Players dribble to the cone (defender) on the middle line and perform their move (Swivel Hips).

Coaching Points:

- Using correct feet to execute move

- Angle of movement feint towards 2 o'clock to 10 o'clock (vice versa for opposite foot)

- Exaggeration of shoulders and head to help unbalance the defender

- Head up to observe next course of action

- Use of other foot to play the ball pass the defender and accelerate away

Progressions:

- Addition of semi-opposed pressure (players dribbling at each other)

- Same set up as screen prior: now going to goal

Instructions:

- Addition of midway line that attacker must cross before finishing on goal.

- 10 second countdown per match.

Coaching Points:

- Get in line to receive the ball and Head up to locate goal

- Recognition of defender (speed of approach)

- Choice of which goal to attack based on defender's pressure

- Quick decision to perform move

- Head up to find goal, seal off defender after move and accelerate to goal
