Progression 1

Organization: 15x30 area with 10 yards in between each orange cone and 5 yards between the orange and blue cones. 4 players with a defender on opposite orange cones as shown.

Instructions: Player B starts centrally and passes a ball into A to initiate the drill. As A receives he may take a first touch either left or right towards either orange cone. As A dribbles towards the cone, B applies passive pressure. A performs the U Turn and drives diagoanlly to the other side of the grid (the next orange cone), B again applies pressure allowing A to perform another U Turn, this time with the other foot. After the second turn, A finds C with a pass to initiate the pattern over again with C now the attacker and A the defender. Rotation: A to B, B behind D, C becomes attacker going other direction.

Coaching Points: Controlled approach with knees bent and a low center of gravity; Head up to observe oncoming defender; Use the protected foot to dribble; Place your body between the ball and defender; Use the sole of the foot to move the ball across your body; Use the outside of the nearet foot (opposite foot to which you dragged it with) to take the ball away at a forwards angle away from pressure; Change of speeds- slow down before the turn and speed up after; Vary the type of dribbling depending on space (messi/ronaldo)

Progressions:

Progression 2

Organization: Same but with two blue corner gates at each end.

Instructions: Same, but this time after the attacker makes his second turn he must find the end player between one of the gates (receiving player's choice). After receiving through the gates C plays back into A and then A sets back centrally for C to start pattern. (The gate chosen will determine which side the receiving player attack's as he will take that first touch away from pressure).

Coaching Points: As before. Head up to observe target immediately after turn; Quality passing; Techniques of turn; Techniques of dribbling; Change of speeds; Protect the ball by dribbling/passing with the correct foot
