Warm-up: Repeat S9; Endline Game

Organization:

30 x 20 (w/ 5 yard endzones)

2 teams of 4 per grid

Instructions:

1. (Play as a game, however,) Instead of having goals to score in, players must dribble into the endzone, pull the ball back and play it out to one of their players in order for it to count as a point.

2. If an attacking player enter the endzone, a defender can not enter.

3. Once a team has scored one point at on endzone, they must try to enter the opposite one.

Coaching Points:

1. Keep your head up - avoid clusters and danger

2. Dribbling technique - Messi touches around the inside of the grid. Once we see an opening of space to enter the endzone attack it with Ronaldo touches.

3. Change of speed after skill

4. Body shape - Keep a low center of gravity to (1) shield the other players from stealing the ball (2) quick explosions away from pressure

5. Body positioning - where is the ball in relation to pressure

3 Player Combo: Give and Go; Overlap

** May or may not remove. If removed, we will still address verbal and visual cues in the following activity **

Organization:

15 x 15

Players in groups of 3

Each group with a ball and in their own 15 x 15 area

PLEASE NOTE: Field diagram only illustrates player movement while practicing combinations. Does not show actual field set up.

Instructions:

1. Players pass the ball around in a triangle

2. Coach introduces/reviews the Give and Go combo.

3. After practicing for a few minutes, groups compete against each other to see how many Give and Go combinations they can create in 2 minutes. (Allow player to compete for 2-3 rounds)

4. Coach introduces/reviews the Overlapping run.

5. After practicing for a few minutes, groups compete against each other to see how many Overlapping run combinations they can create in 2 minutes. (Allow player to compete for 2-3 rounds)

Coaching Points:

1. Awareness: Observation of defenders position to help decide best course of action; Player in possession recognizing that space is ahead and they are able to drive in field to create 2v1; Timing of run of supporting player; Recognition of overlapping player to help unbalance defense.

2. Surface technique: Attacking 1st touch (Ronaldo) into space; Messi touches dribbling toward the defender; Inside/Outside surface to pass the ball.

3. Verbal + Physical Cues:

1st Attacker

a. Recognizes space ahead / behind the defender and attacks the        space with his/her first touch, engaging the defender 1v1.

b. 1st Attacker engages 2nd Attacker by using verbal cues/commands to help combine and get around the defender by creating a favorable 2v1 situation.

2nd Attacker

a. Recognizes 1st Attackers approach (physical cue) towards the defender in a 1v1 situation. 2nd Attacker decides to combine with the 1st Attacker by indicating a Give and Go combo, with his/her body movement, or an overlapping run by verbal commands to hold and pass the ball.

Progressions:

(P1) - Introduce/Review the Give and Go

(P2) - Introduce/Review the Overlap

(P3) - Challenge players follow the Overlapping combination with a Give and Go
