Phase 1: Development of basic skill (10 mins)

Work Area: 5 to 8 yard sqaure that is adjusted based on the age group to be worked with (larger areas for younger players)

Work Group Size: Groups of 4 players grouped in pairs each pair wearing a different colour.

Work Skill: Emphasis on the player with the ball turning away from the defender in order to maintain possesion of the ball. Players will take turns starting with the ball and working for periods of 10, 5 and 3 seconds. There will probably be 3 to 4 groups that are working with each group starting whe the coach blows a whistle. At the end of the allotted time the player that starts with the ball will give the ball to the other player so that they can start with the ball.

Activity Focus: Using different parts of the foot to turn away from the defender with the defender trying to take the ball away so that they can finish the allotted time with the ball. At the end of the allotted the player without the ball will have a consequence to perform.

Phase 2: Basic skills applied on controlled game environment (10 mins)

Work Area: 8 to 10 yard sqaure that is adjusted based on the age group to be worked with (larger areas for younger players)

Work Group Size: Groups of 4 players grouped in pairs each pair wearing a different colour.

Work Skill: Emphasis on the player with the ball turning away from the defender in order to maintain possesion of the ball. Players will take turns starting attacking the ball on the start cone. As the cone with the ball is placed closer to one team than the other, there should be a higher chance for the closer team to get possesion of the ball and develope the skill to keep the ball. Players will work using 3 time periods of 15, 10 and 5 seconds. Both players from a given team will start with the ball before switching places with the opposing team.

Activity Focus: Still focusing on using different parts of the foot to turn away from the defender to keep possesion. Players will now be moivng to the ball to determine if the players can maintain possesion while moving to the ball. The defender is still trying to take the ball away so that they can finish the allotted time with the ball. At the end of the allotted the player without the ball will have a consequence to perform.

Phase 3: Basic skills applied in limited game situations (20 mins)

Work Area: 15 to 20 yard area

Work Group Size: Groups of 8 players grouped in pairs working with 2 players at each work post numbered 1 thru 4. Pairs should be grouped so that the same teams can be paired together.

Work Skill: Emphasis on the player with the ball turning away from the defender in order to maintain possesion of the ball. Coach will call out 2 players by post number 1,2,3 or 4 and then serve the ball. Players are encouraged to respond when the ball is played rather than a coach blowing a whistle. Players play 1v1 while attempting to score in any of the 3 goals. Players cannot score in the goal in front of their post position

Activity Focus: Score in an open goal by turning away from the defender. Executing 1 tune will create seperation a second turn will create space to allow an offensive player to pick up their head and possibly score.

Activity progression: Teams 1 and 4 play against teams 2 and 3. As one player is now coming in from each start post numbers do not have to be called players are now responding to the ball theat is served by the coach. Teams must gain possesion and complete one pass before attempting to score. As players progress more passes can be added.
