Starting Lineup

Basic 1-4-2-3-1 formation as this has proven to be our strongest formation and gives us the most balance.

Tactical

***********************************************************************************************

Tactical info is going to be broken down into tactical functions (Defensive unit, Attacking unit, Midfield unit).

Players that I expect to potentially fill in those roles through the game will be listed in each section! Some players will play across multiple functional units, some will fulfill one primary role.

Please pay very close attention to the tactical functions of your unit but be aware of the responsibilities of other units also (you may switch to another unit without notice & you are a leader on the field and if you don't know each others' roles you cannot help each other!)

*********************************************************************************************

DEFENSIVE UNIT

(#1, #2, #3, #4, #5) (ANDREW, RYAN, ZEBB, BRIAN R, NELS, MADDEN, JERRY, HUNTER)

* keep the play out in front of our defensive line as much as possible so we are not chasing back to our goal.

* Look to play out from the back when clear space is available to us

* Maintain a flattened "U" shape with our #2 & #3 playing a little higher than our CBs so we have the ability to support attacking functions and fill in rotational gaps as play develops

**************************************************

ATTACKING UNIT

(#7, #9, #10, #11) (BRIAN V, COLTON, ERIC, MADDEN, ERIC, SAM, MARTIN, JAKE, JERRY)

ATTACKING CREATIVITY IN THE WIDE AREAS

*Getting the ball out wide to our #7 & #11. Create some mismatches in the wing areas (2 v1s) so we can get quality crosses into the box at various heights/depths.

IMPORTANT!! *Recognize the trigger for wide players to attack and push high (ball switched into a new channel with ball control and moving forward) as we practiced this week

#7 & #11 must time their runs with movement of the ball and not just hang out up top as attackers.

* Ensure that our #9 plays as high as possible to take advantage of opportunities in behind their back line!

 ***************************************************

MIDFIELD UNIT

(#6, #8, #10) (NOAH, JACOB, ERIC, KEVIN, NELS, SAM,

CONTROL THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD with our #6 & #8.

It's super important that we are:

*Strong in our tackles (winning 50/50 balls)

*accurate in our outlet passing to our #10, to our wing players etc

*plug the gaps and ensure we are a good shield for the defensive unit.

*TECHNICALLY: Ensure we get a good first touch, have our head on a swivel and don't hold onto the ball too long!

*Be very aware of your connectivity and position with regards to each other. Don't get too flat (in a straight line), don't get sucked too deep into the back line (unless rotation requires it).

* How well we shut down the middle of the field with the #6 & #8 today will determine how well the game goes for us!!!

 ********************************************************

SECONDARY/POSSIBLE TACTIC

If we recognize that this team likes to play out from the back, we may utilize a high press to attack them in their defensive third of the field to quickly regain possession. If I give you the signal that we want a period of high press, this is what we do:

HIGH PRESS UP THE FIELD

* create some defensive havoc by applying pressure high up the field (opposition defensive third).

* must be a combined effort from #7, #9, 10 & #11 to work together to win the ball back.

*behind that front 4 applying pressure, the #6 & #8 must make sure they keep the gaps small behind them (and likewise the back line playing up a little higher).

* Have to always be aware of the counter attack as we may be playing a little higher up the fie
