Description

Technical rotations focus on quality of pass. Emphasize the correct technique with the outside of the foot pass.

"+1" & 2v1 activity are all about the decision making process. Should I pass? Or, should I dribble?

Part of the decision making process is 'what next?', if the player plays to the neutral they have to understand their job is not done.

Can they move to get the ball back? In behind, underneath, overlapping...

Coaching:

Get out of defending half quickly

Is a quick pass to the neutral available as you win the ball - penetrate

Movement after pass - neutral cannot score, can you get open for a combination

Neutral - movement to maximize space, force defender into a decision (committ to the ball or drop)

Organization:

30x20 yard area

Cones split width in half

Players work in pairs

Plenty of soccer balls

Instructions:

Players pass the ball across to each other in 2 touches

Pass is played with the outside of the foot

Touch in front and pass

As many passes as possible in the given space

Coaching:

How to pass with outside of foot

Keep ball on foot nearest to team mate while dribbling

Standing foot further away from the ball - to the side

Lunge into the ball with kicking foot

Toes pointed down, ankle locked

Make contact with the ball just before the foot would plant on the ground - imagine you are stepping but the ball is in the way, so you have to make contact with it

Place the pass ahead of the team mate, they can move forward into its path

25x15 yard area

Minimum 3 players per team

Plenty of soccer balls

Cones 10 yards from goal - scoring line

If defender wins the ball, they make a pass to one of the waiting attacking players to score a point

Rotate teams after set period

Coaching:

Quality of pass from defender

1st touch of attacker - engage the defender

Movement of 2nd attacker to support - appropriate distance and angle to be an option, not an obstacle

Force defender to committ - to the ball or to the 2nd attacker

Decision making - when is it best to pass? When is it best to dribble 1v1?

Quality of release to 2nd attacker - outisde surface, add disguise, play late to eliminate defender
