Warm-Up: Rondo

Description

Keep players in a big enough circle to be successful. For younger or less able groups, start without a defender. The important points to get right first are:

- 2 touch max

- Do not let the ball stop rolling

- Do not pass straight back to the person who passed to you

This should begin to develop the basic skills needed to be successful against 1 defender. You can start the defender as a 'passive defender'. This will likely need to be you as the coach because the kids will want to win the ball back.

If necessary, make multiple circles. I prefer no more than 6 - 8 players in the circle.

Activity 2: 2v2+2

Description

2 fields: 25x30

On each field: 2 neutrals, 2 Blue, 2 Green.

Simple possession game. Use the width. Neutrals can pass between themselves. The 2 greens need to move the defenders around. Left Green checks in to receive pass (Right Green checks out). If there is no pass available, continue with Right Green checking in and Left Green checking out.

Defenders need to be compact, prevent the pass to the opposite neutral (depth).

When defence wins the ball, they must secure the first pass to the furthest neutral (away from pressure). They immediately get wide and attempt to keep possession. A point is awarded for getting the ball from 1 neutral to the other.

Key Points

Play at different heights

Pass into space / on an angle (especially when returning a give and go to the neutral)

Check

No switching sides

Activity 3: Chaotic 2v2+2 (x2)

Description

On the same 25x30 field, put a neutral on each side of the box. 2 blue teams and 2 green teams. One 2v2 plays vertical between the top and bottom neutral, the other 2v2 plays horizontal to the left and right neutrals.

Make sure to play at different heights. Keep your head up, you can switch which side of the field you are on (left or right) with your teammate.

The two 2v2's are completely independent of eachother.
