2v1 With Two Wide Goals (15 mins)

2v1 with Two Wide Goals: Field 12 x 15 yards. Four Players

Rules:

- Two players with a ball situated in the center of the field alternately attack the goals, each defended by one opponent only.

- Objective is for attacker to dribble across the opposing goal-line despite the opponent's active defence of it

- After 10 attacks or 90 seconds of attacking, both teams switch roles and positions.

- The pair that scores the most goals wins

*Winning pair play against another winning pair, losing pair find another losing pair.

An attack toward one goal finishes when:

- the defender has touched the ball three times

- one of the attackers has managed to dribble the ball across the goal-line

- one attack infringes the rules

- the ball runs across any end-line

Optional: play 3v1 in grid, with similar progression to 4v1 to last practice.

Coaching Points: (very little, let them play)

-Which foot are we receiving with? Are we taking a positive touch?

3v1 Keep Away (10 mins)

3v1 Keep Away Warm-up: GU9&GU10: 12x15 yards

Progression:

1) GU9&GU10: Standard keep away. # player's 1-4. Player one has to win the ball 3 times before they can go out. Then rotate in numerical order. Have one full rotation go before introducing coaching points.

2) Introduce, calling name of player or else have to go in and perform 3 burpees. Why this rule?

Why? Perfect passing & receiving technique with pressure, movement off the ball and supporting angles.

3) 3v1 Keep away with transition. GU9&GU10 can progress to that.

-First to ten points win.

-Offensive team scores by completing 5 passes. (olders). 3 for youngers.

-Defender scores by intercepting the ball, ball leaving the area, offensive team not calling name of person they are passing to (all 1 point)

-Defender can also score by dribbling out of on of the sides to score 2 points.

Progression: 2 touch max.

Coaching Points: Offensive players must always ***receive ball across body with hips open to the field (when is the only time not to? if defender is on you, what can you do?) What is your response when you lose the ball? Need to close down immediately and win ball back and try to keep possession. What should supporting players be doing? No one should ever be standing. Constant adjustments in their movements.

*** needs to be stressed every session, whenever we don't see it happening, we need to address it. Building block of TIC (Technical Inisght Communication).

4v2 Positional Game (20 mins)

4v2 Positional Game

Set-up:

Two cone goals 12 yards wide

Grid: Half of full size pitch

7 players: 2 v 2 with 2 neutral players on wings and a GK

Rules

- After GK passes the ball towards one of his 4 attackers (2 defenders and 2 neutral wide players) they develop a postional attack until they are able to score by dribbling through cone goals.

- If defending players win the ball then they can attack to goal and the two neutral wide players now become on their team.

Scoring:

- 1 point for team playing out of the back if they dribble through cone goals

- 2 points if two defenders win the ball and score on big goal.

- first to 8 points. Restarts with GK.

Objective: 8 of 10 attacks should result in a point for offensive team

Learning Objectives: knowing how to exploit the least defended areas by passing intelligently and by making effective runs off the ball, in order to take advantage of the space with good decision making and quick thinking. Usually best area of the pitch to exploit are those opposite to where the ball is, whether that is lengthways or width ways.

U9&U10's: Need to have TWO games going for each age group. No standing around.

U11's&U12's: Must have two and maybe three games going.

Coaching Points: Secure possession of the ball without risking losing it. This is achieved by the excellent distribution of the four attackers throughout the pitch and by keeping the play simple. keep changing positions to drag defenders out of the required zone.
