Practice 1 (20 mins)

Set up as shown with both games played simultaneously up and down the areas.

The aim of the game is for the 2 defenders (v 4) to win the ball and then transfer it to their team mates in the lower half. they then return to that half and 2 players from the attacking team become defenders in the bottom half.

On the left of the diagram, the 2 blues are not pressing the ball, allowing the reds easy possession.

On the right, the nearest red to the ball presses the man in possession and cuts off one of the passing lanes. His team mate positions himself so that he can intercept either of the remaining passing lanes.

Practice 2 (30 mins)

How To Play

Reds have to play at least 3 passes in their area v 1 defender (blue). If they play more than 3 passes another defender can join in.

After 3 or more passes the ball can be transferred to one of the yellow players, the other yellows must then get into that box, meanwhile a different blue defends against the yellows.

The black players on the outside can be used to help transition the ball.

4 minute games - the defending team becomes the outside team to allow for active rest.

The defender must try to make play predictable, as the ball transitions, the defenders in the middle need to be alert and try to anticipate the pass.

If the defenders are struggling allow 2 defenders v 4 attackers.

SSG part 1 (40 mins)

The game starts with the GK feeding the ball to a full back.

The idea is for the reds to try to condense play into a quarter of the pitch (see next screen).
