Dribbling/Shielding (25 mins)

Instructions:

1.The activity starts with equal amount players in each area

2.Players then attempt to knock out each others ball while maintaining possession of their own ball

3.If a player gets knocked out of their area, they join the other area

4.If a player ends up in one area on their own, they’re the winner

Coaching Points:

1.Head up

2.Close control of the ball

3.Shield the ball when necessary

4.Soft touches

5.Outside of the foot - changing direction and tight spaces.

6.Laces - dribbling into space at speed.

7.Sole of the foot - changes of direction and tight spaces.

Shielding:

-Stand sideways

Don’t stand backwards. The defender will poke his foot between your legs.

Stand sideways to put more space between the ball and the defender.

Move the ball to the foot farthest away from the defender.

- Put your arms out

Putting your arms out helps you keep balance, creates more space between the ball and the defender, and lets you feel where he is moving.
