goalscoring in 9 yd area: tennis shot off rebound

Structure: For the practicing of the drill, Player A will flick the ball at the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper will knock the ball towards the side of the field and Player B will attempt to shoot on the rebound by bunting the ball out the air, either on the forehand or on the backhand depending where the ball will be. Player B will need to anticipate where the ball will be going as the keeper sets up to save the ball. Player A will need to ensure that his flick is going across the keeper, to ensure that Player B will be able to receive the rebound. Will need 6 players and a keeper for this drill. 3 players on station A and 3 players for station B, players will rotate between stations once they have had a shot, or attempted shot.

Pointers: Player B will need to anticipate which direction the goalkeeper will save the ball and reaction speed will be tested. Player B will need to step into the shot. Ensure that left foot steps into the shot if the ball is on the FH and right foot forward on the BH. Focus on players head being still when hitting the ball and hitting the ball most of the time.

Finishing in the 9 yd area: flicking

Structure:

Player 1 receives passes and tries to finish after taking a good 1st touch, preferably with a flick, as this is the quickest shot to get away. Player 1 will first receive a pass from Player A and will flick the ball either reverse stick or front stick. After Player 1 has taken the flick at target, he needs to turn and be ready for the rebound. Then he will receive a pass from Player B and again have a flick on target, and again from Player C. When Player D passes Player 1 the ball, Player 1 will attempt to finish with a slap push. The Players will rotate in a clockwise Direction and Player D will become the shooter and Player 1 will fall out of the drill for one rotation as there will be one extra player in the drill. Need 6 Players at each station.

Pointers:

If there are goalkeepers, Player 1 will need to flick on target and set himself for the rebound off the keeper before turning to receive the next pass. Player 1 will need to lead towards the ball, and receive the ball in a flicking position be it off his BH or FH. Player 1 will need to bend the legs and indicate where he wants the pass with his stick, which requires the passing Players A, B, C and D to look up before passing the ball to find their target. Tyres, rebound boards or any obstacles can be used to upgrade the drill and force the striker to move around obstacles and manouevre space to flick. without the ball leaving the stick.

9 yard area: Finishing (Game)

Structure:

6 players will be playing the game. The teams can only score within a marked out area which is approximately 9 yds away from the goalbox, marked out by beacons. Team B will attempt to score first. If there is a goalkeeper in the box then the teams can score anywhere in the goalbox, but if there is no goalkeeper teams can only score in the side net or by hitting the side boards. If Team A turns over ball possession, they need to exit the ball with the D, then they become the attackers and Team B needs to defend. If team B tackles them before they exit the D then Team B remains on attack.

Pointers:

Ensure that players have good anticipation and that they get players in scoring areas, ie in the 9 yrd area. Communication between defenders and attackers is key. No hitting is allowed in this game, therefore this will include slapping. When attackers receive the ball in the 9 yrd area, they should attempt to have a body position which allows them to flick the ball as quickly as possible, ie receive the ball in a flicking position when receiving the pass.
