Main Activity 1 (10 mins)

Organization:

Divide players into two teams

• Objective is to knock over all your “coconuts” before your opponent.

• Players dribble out past line and shoot/pass back toward their coconut

• One player goes at a time from each line

Technique:

• Passing

• Dribbling - inside and outside of foot

Coaching points:

• Plant foot next to ball, toe pointed at target

• Kicking foot, toe up and ankle locked

• Weight of the pass for easy control

• Communication and awareness (visual & verbal)

• Accuracy of the pass (to feet or space)

• Timing of the run, so you’re moving when you receive the ball

• Change speed (with and without ball)

• Keep eyes on the ball

• Players must shoot a moving ball

Main Activity 2 (10 mins)

Organization:

• Divide players into two teams

• Objective is to knock over all your “coconuts” before your opponent.

• The ball is passed to a coach and then the player runs around the

coach (overlap) before shooting

• One player goes at a time from each line

Technique:

Passing

• Shooting – Accuracy vs. power

Coaching points:

• Plant foot next to ball, toe pointed at target

• Kicking foot, toe up and ankle locked

• Weight of the pass for easy control

• Communication and awareness (visual & verbal)

• Accuracy of the pass (to feet or space)

• Timing of the run, so you’re moving when you receive the ball

• Change speed (with and without ball)

• Keep eyes on the ball

Variations:

• If “coconuts” are balls on cones the more you knock over the more

balls to shoot

• Players must shoot a moving ball

Conditioned game (15 mins)

Organization:

• Divide players into two teams

• Objective is to knock over all your “coconuts” before your opponent.

• Each team has “coconuts” to defend and attack

• Coach plays out a ball to two players who play 1v1

• Play continues until there is a score than return to coach

• More than one 1v1 can be going at a time

Technique:

• Dribbling - inside and outside of foot

• Shooting/Passing – accuracy vs. power

Coaching points:

• Plant foot next to ball, toe pointed at target

• Kicking foot, toe up and ankle locked

• Weight of the pass for easy control

• Communication and awareness (visual & verbal)

• Accuracy of the pass (to feet or space)

• Timing of the run, so you’re moving when you receive the ball

• Change speed (with and without ball)

• Keep eyes on the ball

-Progression, if one pair is done, they can turn into 2v2

Small-Sided Games Tournament 3v3 (20 mins)

Instructions:

4 Teams of 3, play 3v3 tournament style format where each team will play one another. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. Each game should be approximately 6-8 minutes in duration (obviously play a 3 game tournament).
