Pass & Move (10 mins)

Players are organized into three groups of four. One ball per group. Players are asked to pass and move across the half field. Players should be varying their passes (i.e. long, short, driven, lofted etc.) Make sure they are always on the move and incorporate dynamic stretching into the exercise. Players should do the following;

1) Short-Short-Long: Make sure the passes are continuous and follow a rhythm to encourage off the ball movement.

2) Pass & Pressure: As soon as a player passes to a team-mate, they must apply passive pressure to the receiving player.

Players should be opening up their hips and loking for the pass before the receive the ball. Off the ball, they should be looking for angles of support. Timing, weight and accuracy of the pass are important and emphasis should be placed on this.

Midfield Pressure (20 mins)

Players are split into three teams of four. THe groups on either side are trying to play through the midfield line. In the center, the emphasis is on the players who will pressure the ball, support cover and balance. They must win possession back as quickly as possible. If the middle group win the ball, they play to the team on the opposite side and are replaced with the team who conceded possession. Play is continuous and players should look to be constantly moving whether in or out of possession.

Passing Box (1) (10 mins)

Players receive on the back foot takng a touch across their body and play out on the other side. After connecting the pass, they sprint in the opposite directionto the next cone. This is used to emphasize passing and creating space by our movement in the opposite direction. We are looking for a two touch movement pattern and the play has to be quick. Ensure the timing weight and accuracy of the pass is of a high standard.

Passing Box (2) (10 mins)

As per the previous activity, players receive on the back foot takng a touch across their body and play out on the other side. After connecting the pass, they sprint in the opposite direction to the next cone. This is used to emphasize passing and creating space by our movement in the opposite direction. Now the next player in line presses the ball when the ball is played to the opposite player. (the pressing players have been identified as white for the purposes of the diagram) They must react and press as quickly as possible when they see the ball being played into the player opposite. Ensure players are 'acting' and not 'reacting' to the ball movement. Make sure the quality of the passing is kept high.

Passing Box (3) (10 mins)

As per the previous activity, players receive on the back foot takng a touch across their body and play out on the other side. After connecting the pass, they sprint in the opposite direction to the next cone. This is used to emphasize passing and creating space by our movement in the opposite direction. Now the next player in line supports the play by playing a quick one-two with the receiving player and then presses again at a closer distance to add more pressure. The pressing players have been identified as white for the purposes of the diagram. They must react and press as quickly as possible when they see the ball being played into the player opposite. Ensure players are 'acting' and not 'reacting' to the ball movement. Make sure the quality of the passing is kept high.
