-Players will understand 1 v. 1 situations facing the defender and be more confident in making decisions to attack defenders 1 v. 1.

-Players will have a solid technical base for fundamental 1 v. 1 moves facing defender.

-Challenge players to get their head up and recognize where is the defender, where is the space, and stick to decision to develop attacking mentality.

Warm up- Technical (10 mins)

Organization: 35x35 yd area. 1 ball per player. Adjust space based on numbers.

Instructions: Dribbling ball in marked area using different surfaces.

Coaching Points: (1). Keep ball close when approaching other players or balls. (2). See where space is and take touch away into space with speed. (3).

Progressions: (1). "Try to get head up and see where other player are." Start slow and move to faster (game speed) once comfortable. (2). Use feint to get away from defenders. (3) Use roll to get away from defenders. (4). Use scissors to get away from defenders.

Main Activity (1)- 1 v. 1 channels (15 mins)

Organization: 20x 25 yd area. 20 cones= 1 v. 1 channels. Balls start on one side. 2 even lines per channel. More players on side where ball starts if uneven numbers.

Instructions: A passes to B. A becomes shadow defender. B attacks space and dribbles by A. B controls ball on opposite end line and A and B fill in to opposite line where they started.

Coaching Points: 1. Identifying defenders position.

2. Make decision and stick with it- develop attack mentality.

3. Recognition of space / defender.

4. Attacking the defender / space at speed.

5. Movement of ball / body to unbalance.

6. Position the body in between the ball and opponent.

Progressions: (1.) Defender can not tackle (shadow defending) Attackers dribble across simultaneously and players switch lines. (2). A starts dribbling ball, B defends. Score points by dribbling across opposing end line with control. Defender can steal and score by dribbling across. (3).Rotate red teams to opposite field.

Main Activity (2) 2 v. 1 (15 mins)

Organization: same as 1 v. 1 channels

Instructions:

-A pass to B. C makes run on width to be available for pass.

-B decides to dribble across or pass to C who can dribble across.

Coaching Points:

(1). Defender approaching fast or slow?

(2). Timing of decision to attack space.

(3). Defender backing off to defend runner?

(4). Speed to beat defender.

Progressions:

(1). B dribbles and A is shadow defender. B and C must take ball to other end line with control.

(2). A is defending and can tackle . B and C must combine before ball gets to other side.

(3). B and C penetrate to other side to score. A can steal ball and dribble to other side to score.

Organization:

-40x50 yd area

-6 red players and 6 blue players.

Instructions:

1. 6v6 to goals

2. Each player must choose a player from the other team to "man mark". Players can only defend the player they are "man marking".

Coaching points:

(1). Separation from defender when not on the ball.

(2). Receive ball and get head up to identify defender.

(3). Timing of move to beat defender.

(4). Speed to take ball away towards goal.

-2 mini goals

-3 Teams of 3

-1 Balls- restarts from coach at half field- first team to get organized gets ball.

Instructions:

- 3 minute games or first team to score.

- Score in opposing team's goal.

- Try to beat players 1 v. 1 when you recognize a good time.

- 2 teams not playing do agility.

Coaching Points:

- Reinforce moments of good technique and using 1 v. 1 moves at the right time.
