Warm Up (20 mins)

Modified passing diamond.

Players follow their pass.

Work with 2 balls.

Coaching Points

Accuracy and pace of the pass.

Pass to the "correct" foot, (know your team mates).

Body position to receive.

Movement to receive.

Progression/Development

Change direction.

One player moves to the middle of the grid & can be used to play a wall pass with the wide player or receive a straight pass & set the end player.

Free up the practice & as long as there is a player at every station, let the players pass and move wherever they want.

8-Ball (30 mins)

8 balls are placed on top of cones as shown.

Whenever a ball goes out of play, that ball MUST be retrieved by the player who played it out.

In the meantime, the team who would ordinariy restart with a throw in, can restart the game with ANY ball from the cones.

The player retrieving the ball MUST replace the ball on the empty cone.

4x 3minute games with 3 minutes recovery.

Principles of Play (30 mins)

30 minute practice to introduce/reinforce the basic principles of play.

The Red team are trying to score in the goal. The Blue team can score by running the ball through the poles on either flank or by hitting the Green GK on the full.

Coaching Possibilities

Blues - communication, holding a line, spacing, screening, 1v1 defending.

Reds - combination play, playing between the lines, creativity, 1v1 attacking.

Speed Endurance (20 mins)

Distances for all players runs are (as close as possible) equal.

All players make 6 - 10 runs (fitness dependant)

Play alternate sides and players make the passes and runs shown.

If the long pass to the wide area is mishit or goes out, players continue with the runs and the coach on the end line feeds a ball for the cross.

The 2 runners from midfield should try to get on the end of the cross (one attempt at goal only).

As soon as the wide player has crossed, he turns and sprints back to the halfway line.

As soon as the 2 midfield runners have had their attempt at goal (or the cross has been missed) they must turn & sprint back over the halfway line.

GK - when the initial short pass is made, they must sprint to the penalty spot & shuffle sprint back to their start position.
