#1 Backdoor Short Pass (10 mins)

Description

The backdoor short corner has the potential to catch the defence off guard. Iote loading the area between the near post and penaly spot. If the restart breaks down at any point, simply have the players improvise and use the numerical advantage to play around the defence.

No.11 triggers this corner by raising one arm in the air.

No.3 makes his run for a short corner.

Trigger for No.6 is as No.11 looks up to play the ball to No.3

As soon as No.3 looks to pass the ball to No.11, No.11 makes a short fast run to receive the ball in line with the line of the penaly box.

No.11 then has decisions:

A. Cross the ball immediately into the shaded area - timing of the runs of 7,8,9&10 is crucial. Begin their runs only after No.11 has received the ball at his feet.

B. Dribble and shoot or lay off.

No.2,4&5 provide defensive cover and also to attack the second ball.

#2 Wing Back Late Run (10 mins)

Description

As used by the Costa Rican National Team. The Wing Back No.3 comes in late and fast from a deep position to sereve the ball into the box. This play creates a different angle for the defence to deal with.

No.11 triggers this corner by raising both arms in the air.

No.3 makes a late deep run to receive the ball near the corner of the penalty area.

As No.3 receives the ball and looks up - trigger for No 7,8,9&10. Don't run too soon - attack the space. No.3 needs to have good decision making skills - assess the space, defence capabilities (tall? play into No.10 - along groud or driven cross looking for flick on?) - weather conditions? Sun in GK's eyes - play to the far post.

No.6 & 2 look for the second ball.

No.4&5 provide defensive cover.

#3 20 Yard Isolation Shot (10 mins)

Description

This corner was used to perfection by Manchester United and Paul Scholes. The Service to No.2 on the top of the box must befast and firm. Player No.2 must be able to strike the ball first time with power and accuracy.

As a variation, if No.3 were to drop deeper, No.11 could pass the ball to him, and No.3 could then pass the ball to No.2

No.11 triggers this corner by placing his hands on his hips.

Effect No.2 - timing of the run is crucial. Must link his run with run of No.6 - using the space created by No.6 moving out of the area. Confidence! Strike the ball first time!

Effect No.7,8,9&10 - before the ball is played into No.2, create decoy runs - taking the defence as far from the shaded area as possible - moving forward 2 yards en bloc, and then making their designated runs as No.2 strikes the ball.

Description

This corner kick is the standard set up. From this set up you can have a short corner to player No.3.

Once Centre Back has taken his place, No.11 will indicate short corner by placing one hand in the air, or long corner by placing two hands in the air.

Timing of runs is important.
