Warm Up (1735) (10 mins)

Organization:

1. Penalty area set up as shown

2. 6 players (3 Attackers, 3 Defenders) set up as shown

3. 1 ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. The team of three attackers work to possess the ball from the three defenders

2. If the defending team wins the ball they to attempt to possess

3. If the ball leaves the area the activity is restarted with a kick-in

Coaching Points:

1. Deny penetration

2. Force attacking team to pass square, back, or wide

3. Ability to change roles quickly and correctly

4. Keep the ball in front

Progressions:

1. P – Add direction and play to two or three small goals

2. R – Revert back to 3v2

Main Theme (1736) (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 30 x 44 yard area set up as shown

2. 6 players (2 team s of 3) set up as shown

3. 1 ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Teams play 3v3 to three small goals

2. If the ball leaves the area play a kick-in to restart the game

3. On a goal the game is restarted with a pass from behind the end line

Coaching Points:

1. Deny penetration

2. Force attacking team to pass square, back, or wide

3. Ability to change roles quickly and correctly

4. Stay compact

5. Communication is vital - early, brief, and conscious

Progressions:

1. P – Add neutral player to create 4v3 for attacking team

2. R – Take away central goal

Organization:

1. 40 x 25 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players (2 teams of 6) set up as shown

3. 1 ball (Additional around the outside

Instructions:

1. Teams play 3v3 in the middle area and 1v1 in either channel areas

2. Teams attempt to score on their opponents goal

3. The players in the channels interchange with central players on receiving the ball

4. The object of the practice is for wide players to enter the game at speed in an attempt to unbalance the defending team

5. Players in the channels can not tackle each other

6. If the ball leaves the area normal restart rules apply

Coaching Points:

1. Force attacking team to pass square, back or w ide

2. Keep the ball in front

3. Win the ball when the unit is collectively secure

4. Stay compact

5. Communication is vital - early, brief, and conscious

6. Transition to attack

Progressions:

1. P - Allow players in the channels to defend each other

2. R - Keep wide player in their channels so there is no interchanging between attackers

2. 14 players (2 teams of 7) set up as shown

Instructions:

1. Each team plays 3v3 in the attacking and defensive halves of the field

2. Players are restricted to moving only within their zone

3. Each team attempts to score on their opponent’s goal

Coaching Points:

1. Deny penetration

2. Force attacking team to pass square, back, or wide

3. Keep the ball in front

4. Stay compact

5. Communication is vital - early, brief, and conscious

6. Transition to attack

Progressions:

1. P – Remove restriction zones and play 7v7
