Starting Lineup

Basic 1-4-2-3-1 formation as this has proven to be our strongest formation and gives us the most balance.

**************************************************************************

Same new priorities as our game vs Bethesda Green:

Specific communication cues defensively

Quality/composed finishing. Anything over the cross bar adds to consequences on Monday at Training.

Quality and Accuracy of our passing

***************************************************************************

DEFENSIVE UNIT

(#1, #2, #3, #4, #5) (ANDREW, BRIAN R, MADDEN, JACOB, JERRY, ZEBB)

APPLY PRESSURE.....RECOVER CENTRALLY!!!!

COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE AGGRESSIVELY!!!

INTENSITY AND WORK ETHIC!

I expect to hear us aggressively communicating as a team. I want to hear:

"push/press, slide, recover, no turn, force right/left" etc

*1 v 1 individual defensive battles are key....YOU MUST WIN THOSE by being patient, focused on POSITION FIRST, ball second.

*STAY COMPACT and connected as individual players to form a strong unit

*if there is ball penetration, recover centrally

*When the ball goes negative, push higher up the field!!

*Pass off players as they move horizontally across the field....but TRACK VERTICAL RUNNERS!!

*DEFENDING THE CENTRAL AREAS AGGRESSIVELY AND ENSURING WE KNOW WHERE WE ARE IN RELATION TO OUR CENTRAL GOAL AT ALL TIMES (HEAD ON A SWIVEL)

* Do not allow any balls through the back line centrally....make everything go wide!

*GK ROLE:

*Be conservative with ball distribution

*Punch aerial balls in the box whenever possible!

 ***************************************************

MIDFIELD UNIT

(#6, #8, #10) (NOAH, JACOB, ERIC, SAM, MARTIN, JERRY, COLTON)

STAY CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER AND OUR 2 OTHER UNITS (DEFENSE/ATTACK)

MANAGE OUR COUNTER ATTACKS

POSSESSION/POSSESSION/POSSESSION

*DO NOT GIVE THE BALL AWAY CHEAPLY - IT'S PRECIOUS

Stay connected with our defensive unit and forward lines (transition well)

* Win the battle for the middle of the field

*CAN WE INCREASE THE ACCURACY OF OUR PASSING?

* CAN WE LOOK TO PLAY THE BALL OUT OF TIGHT AREAS WITH A LONGER BALL (SWITCH THE PLAY OR SEND IT LONG AFTER A SERIES OF SHORTER PASSES)

*HOW WELL CAN WE MAINTAIN OUR TEAM SHAPE IN CONNECTION TO OUR DEFENSIVE LINE/ATTACKING LINE

*TECHNICALLY: Ensure we get a good first touch, have our head on a swivel and don't hold onto the ball too long!

*HOW WELL CAN WE PLAY IN THE DIRECTION WE ARE FACING RATHER THAN HAVING TO TURN WITH THE BALL. REQUIRES OUR SUPPORT ANGLES/DISTANCES TO BE GOOD

Go quick.........Funnel the ball centrally to give us left/right options.............creative movements around the ball to unbalance defenders and increase our passing options

**************************************************

ATTACKING UNIT

(#7, #9, #10, #11) (COLTON, ERIC, MADDEN, SAM, MARTIN, JERRY)

IT'S ALL ABOUT QUALITY FINISHING!!!!

SPEED/EARLY RUNS THAT DICTATE PASSING

* Ensure that our #9 plays as high as possible to take advantage of opportunities in behind their back line!

THE QUALITY OF OUR FINISHING DETERMINES THE RESULT:

The surface we use - inside, outside, toe, laces, how we shape the shot - curl high, shape in corners low, drive ball hard and low, across the GK to far post.

HOW COMPOSED WILL WE BE WHEN WE GET IN FRONT OF GOAL?

*DO NOT DRIBBLE THE BALL INTO DEAD CORNERS IN NUMBERS DOWN SITUATIONS. Pull the ball back out and look for support.

*HOW WELL DO WE MAKE EARLY RUNS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF BALLS PLAYED OUT OF TIGHT SPACES (EITHER FROM SWITCH OR LONGER BALL)

*If we get opportunity to attack over the top we take it, otherwise #9 MUST hold up the ball to allow support players to jo
