Technical WU - Triangles (20 mins)

Intervals: 90 seconds of work + 30 seconds rest

Setup:

6x6x6 inner triangle

12x12x12 outer triangle

2 players at each corner (6 total)

Activity:

a) 2 touch to right: player checks to ball, receives across body and passes to next corner.

b) 2 touch to left: same as above but to left.

c) Touch, backpedal, two-touch to right: Player passes the ball to his right. Receiving player plays the ball back in one touch and backpedals to create space, receives the ball again and passes the ball to the player on his right in two touches.

d) Touch, backpedal, two-touch to left: Same as above but to left

e) Right foot across body + one-two: Dribble forward with hips facing the player in front of you, but pass the ball across your body to the player on your left who should be checking to the inside of the triangle. This player lays the ball off to supporting player for a one-two around the defender and passes to the beginning of the combination.

f) Left foot across body + one-two: same as above but to left

SSG - possess vs. penetrate (25 mins)

Setup:

Field size: 60x70

2 teams of 10 + 2 GKs.

Each team plays 5v5 in each half.

One neutral player in middle between halves.

Activity:

Two games of 5v5 going on at the same time.

Team in possession tries to score in big goal. They can use neutral player if necessary.

Defensive team wins ball and MUST play through middle neutral player before they can turn around and attack the goal.

Middle player must support both games.

Coaching Points:

~ When trying to build out to switch to attack, cues of when to play into neutral player (passing lanes, eye contact)

~ Using the GK as an extra attacker in possession when trying to build out.

~ When attacking, creating overloads out wide to get to endline for crosses.

3 Team Wave Game (25 mins)

Setup:

Field size: 60x70 with a small middle zone

3 teams of 6/7

2 GKs

Activity:

Team in possession tries to score in big goal.

Defensive team must leave one player in middle zone (for defensive team to play into).

Once defensive team wins possession, they are trying to play into middle player in order to transition to attack in the other zone.

Not allowed to steal ball once it's in middle zone.

Coaching Points:

~In attack, looking for overloads out wide.

~In attack, using extra player to decide when to possess (play side-to-side) vs. penetrate (2v1's)

~In build out, looking for passing lanes to play forward (break lines)
