Juggling

Organization:

1 ball per player

Instructions:

As players arrive, take a ball and begin to juggle

Coach provides different body parts to focus touches on; head, knee, foot

Coach can provide combinations of body parts; foot, knee, catch.

Coaching Points:

Encourage players to constantly beat their best score

Opportunity for coaches to interact with players; 'how was school?'

Challenge player to use weaker foot or a body part they have never used before

Getting Touches

Organization:

2 groups of even number

2 lines of cones, 20 yards long with 5 yard markers

1 ball per player

Instructions:

Working at the same time as player in opposite line, dribble down the middle of the 2 lines

Once player has reached the end, turn to the outside of the line and dribble back

Coach sets different dribbling challenges to encourage the use of different surfaces of the feet

Coaching Points:

1. Messi dribble - Small touches

2. Messi zig-zag - Small touches and small, quick changes of direction

3. Sole Role - Move the ball forward, using only the sole of the foot

4. Inside Taps - Using the inside of the feet to quickly transfer the ball from one side to other, whilst moving forward

5. Inside/Outside - Alternate which surface of the foot touches the ball

6. Ronaldo dribble - Bigger touches, further away from the body but still under control

Increase Dribbling Speed

Organization:

4 groups of equal number

Central square in the middle of the playing area

1 ball per player

Instructions:

1st player in line from all 4 lines dribbles forward, into central square

Continue to dribble out of central square to opposite corner

Next 4 players repeat

Coaching Points:

1. Dribble into central square and avoid contact with any other player

2. Skill move at 1st cone and continue dribbling through

3. Dribble into square, perform 2 turns then accelerate to opposite side

4. Dribble into square, stop ball and switch with team mate, accelerate to opposite side

Organization:

40x30 yard area (Maximum)

3 teams of equal number

Plenty of soccer balls

Instructions:

2 teams play possession in the middle of the playing area

1 team positions on the outside to play as neutral support players

Play to score in corner goals

Rotate teams after set period

Coaching Points:

Use of 1st touch to move the ball into space

Play at speed - limit touches

Be on the move to get open to receive the ball
