Warm Up / SAQ (10 mins)

Organization:

- As shown (6 to 8 players per area)

Instructions:

- Players on opposite orange cones make eye contact and game starts on attacker's first step.

- Attackers (whites) try to run through either red gate without being tagged for a point.

- Defender (blues) try to tag their opponent before they get through a red gate for a point.

- After round, switch roles.

Coaching Points:

- Quick movement to attack one goal and get defender's momentum up.

- Can I continue to sprint and score?

- Do I need to change direction and go for other goal (Defender blocked run; use his momentum agains him)?

- Technique to change direction and accelerate out.

Technical - Unopposed (30 mins)

Organization:

- As shown (6 to 8 players per area)

- Ball per player

Instructions:

- Players in opposite lines make eye contact and dribble into outer areas (marked by blue lines)

- Once in that area, the player performs given turn (L), and dribbles to score in the gate on the opposite side of the area (as shown).

- After given amount of time, switch sides (players perform move on weak foot - introduce twist off for left side?).

Coaching Points:

- Size of to attack space, prepare for turn.

- Technique of turn (size / direction of touch, hop on standing foot, accelerate out etc.)

- Head up coming out of technique to observe target.

- Quality of next movement.

- If I'm going to pass after technique how doest that change the technique?

Progressions:

- Add PUGS, players pass into goals rather than dribble.

- Introduce a stop-start to fake given turn.

Technical - Opposed (20 mins)

Organization:

- As shown (6 to 8 players per area).

- Defender (blue) have ball each.

Instructions:

- Starting at the orange cones as in previous activities, the defender (blue) plays pass into attacker's feet (white).

- The attacker attempts to score in either PUG for a point.

- The attacker cannot attempt to shoot on goal until he has crosses a blue line.

- If the defender wins the ball, he must dribble and stop the ball on any white line.

Coaching Points:

- Awareness of space and defender.

- Can I accelerate into one space and score?

- Do I need to turn (has defender blocked my run)?

- Is the defender anticipating my turn (should I stop-start)?

- Techinque, timing and quality of technique.

- Eyes up to observe target / next movement

- Quality of next movement.

Tournament 3v3 (30 mins)

Organization:

3v3 Small-sided tournament games: 4 teams of 3 players eachteam. 2 fields of 20x30 yards with 2 Pugg Goals on opposite endlines.

Instructions:

4 Teams of 3, play 3v3 tournament style format where each team will play one another. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. Each game should be approximately 6-8 minutes in duration (obviously play a 3 game tournament).

Coaching Points:

· Review of session's learning outcomes being translatedinto the game

· 3 lines of attack

· Creating triangle (gives angles of support)

· Making triangle as big as possible (Creating space)
