Juggling Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

Players in pairs

1 ball per pair

Instructions:

Players work as a team.

Player A serves under arm, player B has specific instructions to play ball back to partner, who must catch, without bouncing, to score a point.

Switch servers after 1 minute.

Progressions:

1) Four touches, any surface. Pass back must be on fourth touch.

2) Four touches, any surface. pass back must be on the fourth touch, with the head.

3) Four touches, any surface. Pass back must be on the fourth touch on the half volley.

4) Four touches, any surface. Pass back must be on the fourth touch, and partner must catch ball on the dive (GK style) for the point to count.

Main Theme - 1-2 Pass (10 mins)

Organization:

Players work in groups of four or five.

Area 8 yards wide by 24 yards long.

One ball per group.

Instructions:

A starts with ball.

B checks away, checks into space to receive

C moves in opposite direction to B.

B touches inside, and plays to C, who dribbles to start point.

Repeat.

Coaching Points:

First movement is away from the space to create distance between imaginary defender.

Checking at an angle, opening body, looking over shoulder to check for pressure.

Receiving on far foot, and playing pass with opposite foot to increase speed of play.

Interaction of three attackers, so target player moves in opposite direction to 2nd attacker, to create passing lanes.

Eye contact, verbal communication, and weight and direction of pass.

Main Theme - Progression 1 (10 mins)

Organization and rotation as before

Instructions:

- Same as previous activity, addition of player D whom checks opposite of player C.

- Player C receives and recognizes low pressure, drives inside allowing player D to overlap him.

- Players C and D play to goal with player A becoming a defender.

- Player A (defender) cannot try to win ball in Area 1 (must win ball in shaded area once attackers cross the blue line).

- Defender starts passive, progress to full pressure.

Coaching Points (Target player):

1. Reading pressure from defender (low pressure)

2. Drive inside creating space for overlapping player to run into.

3. Drive with foot nearest to supporting player.

4. Technique (outside of foot) / Timing of Pass.

Coaching Points (Support Player):

1. Read defender's pressure (low) / space to play in.

2. Communication / timing of overlap.

3. Shape of run to receive / space for 1st attacker to play into.

Main Theme - Progression 2 (15 mins)

Organization and rotation as before

Instructions:

- Once player C has taken his touch inside, player B may begin to make a run around the cone shown, becoming 2nd defender (if attackers are slow to combine, it becomes a 2v2).

- Adjust timing of 1st and 2nd defenders' runs and when they can leave in order to get appropriate space / timing for overlap to take place.

Coaching points

1. Quickness / cleanness of combination.

Conditioned Game (30 mins)

Organization:

- 2 Teams of 5 (1 GK)

- 2 Nuetrals in outside channels

Instructions:

- Play 5v5+2.

- If ball is played into the channel, one player from each team may join in the channel with the nuetral creating a 2v1.

- The nuetral is allowed to enter the normal playing area until possession is lost; he then must return to his respective channel.

Coaching Points:

- Technique from previous slides.

- Recognition of 1st/2nd attacker to use underlap / overlap / double pass / etc.
