Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization

30x30 Area set up as shown

12 players (Players in groups of 4)

Each group in a different color.

2 Balls per group - additonal on outside

Activity

- Four players in each team, one working inside circle & three on the outside

- Two players on the outside have a ball, one doesnt

- Players working in the centre receive & then must play to the player on outside who doesnt have a ball

- After passing middle player must go & receive the other ball - activity repeats

- Swap middle players every 60-90 seconds

Progression

1. Players on the outside can now move/dribble around the outside of circle & exchange passes

2. Introduce 1 player from each group on outside to the middle - they act as support (combinations)

3. Extra teammate on inside now becomes support & passive defender to oppsite color

Coachng Points

- Awareness of Space & Surroundings: Check & Snapshot over shoulder.

- Body Position: Open & ready to receive

- Angle to receive & pass

- 1st touch: Various surfaces of foot & angles

- Receive & turn quickly to attack space

Main theme Unopposed (15 mins)

Organization:

Set up as above

Instructions:

End players pass the ball into centre players who turn and pass into opposite target player. Both balls go at the same time. Play for one minute and then change the centre players. Use different techniques to receive on the turn (Inside foot, Outside foot, Spin)

Coaching Points:

- Check away and then to the ball

- Get side on to protect ball

- Quality of touch (weight, direction)

- Disguise touch

- Head up after receiving, connect with teammate

- Quality of pass (accuracy, weight)

Progressions:

- Work with opposite foot

End player passes into centre player who spins the passive defender and passes into the opposite target player. Centre players then switch roles. Play for one minute and then centre players and targets switch places.

Instructions:

End player passes into centre player the joins in and plays 2v1 looking to find the target on the far side. The feeder can only ever take one touch each time they have the ball.

Coaching Points:

- Check away and then to the ball

- Communication (Hands, Voice, Timing)

- Get side on to protect ball

- Quality of touch (weight, direction)

- Disguise touch

- Head up after receiving, connect with teammate

- Quality of pass (accuracy, weight)

- Decision - Spin defender or play back

- Movement after setting back to open up

- Movement of target player

Conditioned Game I (25 mins)

Organization

- 20x40 Area set up as shown

- 5x20 Receiving Zone set up as shown

- 8 players (4 attackers & 4 defenders)

- Four Mini Goals: two goal at either ends in corners

- 4 v 4 inside playing area: 2 v 2 at either end

- 1 ball (additional around outside)

Instructions

- When a team is in possession, one of their players (without the ball) can drop into the receiving zone

- Player who drops into receiving zone cannot be tracked/tackled & must try to play forward

- Once a team scores at one end, they get possession again & attack the opposite end

Coaching Points

- Awareness of Space & Surroundings: Check & Snapshot over shoulder.

- Movement to create space - can you pull & drag defender out of position?

- Body Position: Open & ready to receive - Angle to receive & pass

- 1st touch: Various surfaces of foot & angles

- Receive & turn quickly to attack

Progression

1. Defender can track attacker into the receiving zone

2. Attacker who passes into receiving zone can follow & support to create a 3v2 overload - they must return if attack breaks down or goal is scored.

3. Attacker in end zone can take 1st touch & dribble into Receiving Zone (only when team mate drops in to show forthe ball) to create a 3v2 overload - they must return if attack breaks down or goal is scored.
