Warm up- 1 v. 1 channels (15 mins)

Organization: 20x 25 yd area. 20 cones= 1 v. 1 channels. Balls start on one side. 2 even lines per channel. More players on side where ball starts if uneven numbers.

Instructions: A passes to B. A becomes shadow defender. B attacks space and dribbles by A. B controls ball on opposite end line and A and B fill in to opposite line where they started.

Coaching Points: 1. Identifying defenders position

2. Use body to shield ball / dribble with correct foot to protect ball

3. Touch every step, pinky toe, head up - when defenders are close

4. Big touches in space, head up after every touch, take ball in stride (when space is available)

5. Position the body in between the ball and opponent

6. Attack space.

Progressions: (1.) Defender can not tackle (shadow defending) Attacker dribble across and players switch lines. (2). Score points by dribbling across opposing end line with control. Defender can steal and score by dribbling across. (4).Rotate red teams to opposite field.

Main Activity 2 v. 1 (15 mins)

Organization: same as 1 v. 1 channels

Instructions: A pass to B. C makes run on width to be available for pass. B decides to dribble across or pass to C who can dribble across.

Coaching Points: 1. Drive at defender. 2. Read body shape of defender. 3. Defender approaching fast or slow? 4. Where is the space? 5. Defender pressuring ball or taking runner? Pass or dribble to penetrate. 6. 2nd Attacker provide width.

Progressions: 1. A becomes shadow defender. Attackers must take ball to other end line with control. 2. A is defending full pressure. Attackers must combine before ball gets to other side. 3. Attackers penetrate to other side to score. Defender can

steal ball and dribble to other side to score.

Main Activity 3 v. 2 (20 mins)

Organization: remove cone line dividing 1 v. 1 channels.

Instructions: A passes to B. C defends with A. B combines with D and E to get ball across.

Coaching Points: 1. Drive at defender. 2. Position of 2nd defender? 3. Pressure approaching fast or slow? 4. Where is the space? 5. Where is the open player? 6. Offside rule in effect. 2nd Attacker provide width. 7. Provide support is penetration not available. Pass to supporting player to relieve pressure.

Progressions: 1. Attacking team gets 1 point for penetrating successfully and 1 point for keeping possession when penetration not available. Defenders get 1 point for stealing ball and 2 points for dribbling accross.

Conditioned game (25 mins)

Organization: 40x50 yd area. 2 teams of 6.

Instructions: 2 players from each team play as target players and can only go up and down touch line. "Try to penetrate defense by dribbling or passing around them." Use target players to keep possession. Count passes out loud. 7 passes consecutively = 1 point.

Coaching Points: (1). Engage defender by dribbling at them. (2). Look to dribble if space permitting (compact laterally). (3). 2nd attacker get in wide position to allow pass to penetrate. (4). If pressure does not allow pass or dribble forward look to keep ball by playing negatively or switching point of attack. (5). Distance to defender when making decision to pass or dribble around them.

Progressions: (1.) Target players are neutral and provide width. Targets can move up and down entire side line boundary. Coach switches targets every 3 minutes. (2). If team completes 5 passes, target of their color joins the play to add numbers up.

Organization:

-2 mini goals

-3 Teams of 3

-1 Balls- restarts from coach at half field- first team to get organized gets ball.

Instructions:

- 3 minute games or first team to score.

- Score in opposing team's goal

- Make good decisions to penetrate or possess.

- 2 teams not playing do agility

Coaching Points:

- Reinforce moments of good decisions to possess or penetrate.
