Skill Intro (10 mins)

Gates are placed 15yds apart with 4 markers in a central diamond 2yds apart.

- Two players work at the same time, dribbling towards each other. In the middle they perform a prescribed or free feint to go round the RIGHT side of the cones, and accelerate to the opposite gate.

- After 2mins, players change to the LEFT side of the central cones.

- Make sure players progress from accurate recreating any prescribed move at low speed to high speed.

- Remove the central cones to force players eyes up, and work on percenption and commnication.

Progression (10 mins)

Grid - 15 x 15yds, 2 players hold bibs and are 'taggers'.

- All players MUST keep their ball under control at all times.

- A player who is tagged, loses control, or runs out of the grid must change roles with the tagger.

- The same rules apply for the tagger(s); they cannot catch someone unless they have the ball under control.

Add more taggers to increase the difficulty, or decrease the size of the grid.

Skill Training (20 mins)

Grid 30 x 20yds with 2 small goals on either byline, and a 5yd scoring zone. 2 teams of 6 players maximum line up on opposite sides of the pitch. The coach is positioned on one side of the pitch between 2 goals.

On a call from the coach, 1 player from each team runs around their designated goal and into the middle. The coach passes into the team that runs around the goal nearest to them. Players can finish in either goal they are attacking, but it MUST be inside the scoring zone. If they defender wins the ball, they can attack the opposite goals. Players get 15 secs max. to score a goal, keep the drill moving. Coaches should change the angle of the pass into the grid. After each 1v1, players change where they line up.

Coaching Points:

Attackers - 'Go at the defender with speed', 'Use feints to unbalance the defender', 'Threaten one way, and suddenly change direction'

Defenders - 'Show the attacker one way', 'Keep a low centre of gravity so you're able to change direction quickly', 'The best moment to commit is when the attacker takes a heavy touch or slows down'

Skill Game (20 mins)

Grid 40 x 30yds, 3v3 with GK(s). 3 gates cross the halfway line and are numbered 1-2-3. Each player must defend their own gate when the opposition has the ball.

- Attacking players can go through any goal into the attcking half.

- The defender protecting that gate can recover to try and stop player from scoring.

- If the team scores, they begin from the opposite again.

- If the defenders win the ball, they can go immediately to the PUGs. If they score, they restart the drill and attack thebig goal.

Conditions: Teams attacking the big goal have 20 secs to attempt a 1v1 through a gate, or they lose possession.

- Narrow the pitch to increase the difficulty.

- Add a Joker to give the attacking team an advantage to decrease the difficulty, or make the pitch/gates wider.
