Organization:
10 x 25 grid. Line of cones about 5 yds apart diving each grid in half length wise. One large cone or different color cone about 5-10 yds from the endline as shown.
Two lines of players in each side of the cone.
Instructions:
One line is the "shadow", one line is the "player".
The player tries to beat the shadow to either endline. The player MUST pass the large cone/different color cone before turning back to starting endline.
The shadow gets a point if he/she finishes within an arm-length or so of the player.
Because the shadow is following the player, the player will always finish "first".
After everybody goes once/twice, switch roles.
Coaching points:
Quick changing of direction, to lose the shadow and beating them to the endline. Change of speed as well.
Using which technique/turn to get rid of the shadow (i.e if the shadow/defender is behind you, continue to run and accelerate in the same direction / if the shadow/defender is in front of you, turn and change direction / if the shadow/defender is level with you, do a stop start to beat them)
Progression:
Both player/shadow has ball at their feet and now does the activity while dribbling/turning with the ball.
The player now is the only person with the ball, the shadow is now the live defending.
Once the player passes the large cone/different color cone, the defender can run into the player's channel and try and get the ball. The player still is trying to get to either endline without losing the ball.

Warm up
Organization:
10x10 square. All players with ball.
Instructions:
Progression of touches:
1) 50 touches, any foot and any part of the foot.
2) 50 touches, outside right than 50 touches outside left.
3) 50 touches, inside/out right / 50 touches inside/out left
4) Every player has 3 lives, you lose a life by (a) dribbling out of the area, (b) running into somebody or somebody runs into you, and (c) walking or stopping the ball for a long period of time.
You can vary this warm up any way you want, basically getting the players to get as many touches on the ball as possible, and in a close/tight area for control.
Coaching Points:
Small touches on the ball, close control, using the proper part of the foot to dribble with, dribbling with you head up, recognizing space and players around you.
Progressions:
Make the space smaller or larger depending on the ability level of your players.
Make the touch limit more or less.
Limit the parts of the foot to dribble with (only outside, inside, etc)
Lots of ways to adapt this simple warm up to fit your players ability level.
