5v2 Warm-up (10 mins)

5v2 Warm-up:

Set-up: 10 x 10 yard box.

i. connect 10 passes or complete two split (breaking the lines) passes the two defenders stay in the middle stay in again

ii. Game to 7 points. Offensive team gets one point if they split the two or if they connect 10 passes. Defensive team gets one point if they win it or if they dribble out they get two points.

Coaching Points: Passes are often not completed due to lazy supporting angles. If you see one of them not supporting the player with the ball then they go in the middle. There should be constant movement off the ball when playing and to play split passes.

Ball-Mastery Gates (15 mins)

Ball-Mastery - Gates

set-up: All players with a ball, gates of different colors around the inside of the area. There should be equal number of gates to players.

Players slow down when they get near to a gate and do a move or turn.

Progressions:

1. Different color gates = different challenge (e.g. blue = turn, red = step-over, yellow = the hop)

2. Reduce number of gates so players have to compete to get to a station.

3. 1v1. one ball per two players. Players compete and see how many gates they can dribble through against a defender.

Progressions:

1. Players must pass to a player on a different coloured team; again through a gate.

2. Players must pass to a different coloured player to the one they have jsut received from, through a gate.

Challenges/Questions: Can you pass accurately through the gates? Can players change their technique to get passes through the gate.

Caution: use plenty of gates. Players may fix their position next to one gate to make it easier. Insist that when they use on gate, they must use another.

Lose Marker to Finish

Set-up: Half of group, with at least one ball each, on the outside of grid. The remainder play 1v1 inside the area 1v1. There are a variety of goals set-up around the area, as shown.

Black defenders try to stop attackers from scoring but also get one point if they win the ball and pass it to a free server. Change roles after 1 minute.

Progressions:

1. Add further defender to increase the difficulty for the attackers. The extra defender can double-up on an attacker when required.
