Phase 1

Emphasis: Improve the movement of central midfielders and the ability to play through them to build effective attacking options

Area: 70 x 50 m

Players: All

Equipment: Goals, bibs, mannequins/poles, balls

Setup: In a 70x50m playing area, each team plays with 4 defenders in their own half and three attackers in the attacking half. There are two neutral midfielders who play for the team in possession. Three mannequins/poles are placed at half way to depict defending players.

How To: Teams play out of defence to two neutral midfielders who are limited to two touches forcing them to combine quickly to get through and past the mannequins/poles. Only one midfielder is allowed to join the attack whilst the second must lay deep or balance and depth.
