Pirate Treasure (10 mins)

Organization: 20 x 20 yard area with several 'gates' set up inside area; All players with a ball each.

Instructions:

Players try and collect treasure by running through as many gates as possible in 30-45 secs. As shown above.

Then repeat but this time with a ball

Coaching Points:

Small touches on the ball

Head up

Use both feet

DRAG BACK - Place the sole of the foot on the ball, drag the ball back behind you, turn to follow the ball and push the ball away with the opposite foot

Progressions:

•Get players to do a DRAG BACK TURN when coach shouts ‘Hard-a-Stern’.

All Aboard Bucky! (15 mins)

Organization:20x20 area. All players have a ball.

Instructions:

When Coach shouts ‘Captain coming’, the players all put their foot on top of the ball, salute and shout ‘Aye, aye Captain!’

‘Clean the decks’ = Players do the DRAG BACK TURN (‘Ooh aah’)

‘Rats on deck = Players do toe taps on top of their ball to keep their feet off the ground.

‘Windy Day’ = Players perform the Big Toe Little Toe dribble. Move the ball with the big toe and little toe of one foot. Then repeat with the opposite foot.

‘Seagulls’ = Players fall on top of their ball to protect it from the seagulls.

Coaching Points:

Keep the ball (sword) close to them

Big Toe Little Toe – soft touch with the Big Toe, harder touch with the Little Toe. Same foot.

DRAG BACK TURN – Place the sole of the foot on the ball, drag the ball back behind you, turn to follow the ball and push the ball away with the opposite foot

Finish with 3v3 scrimmage, focus on dribbling.

Chat with the kids about the session then finish off with the ‘Blow up the Balloon’ and a group huddle.
