Description

A general handling session aimed at re-capping the handling techniques of the W, basket and later on in the session- the scoop with a view to the participants understanding the correct technique for a particiular situation.

Technical (Blocked) (15 mins)

Key Factors

Set Position – Balanced on balls of feet, knees slightly bent, feet shoulder width apart, elbows tucked in, head still.

Eyes locked on the ball.

W – Thumbs behind the ball (W shape), Hold ball still where it’s caught – make sure not to drop your hands.

Basket – Hand position (pinkies together) under the ball – fingers pointing towards the ball, impact on forearms, close hands into chest to secure ball into the body.

Hold for 2 seconds – secure ball.

Footwork – move into line with the ball, short sharp steps.

Organisation

Working in pairs; 1 working GK and 1 server will work in a station of 2 cones (2 yards apart with 1 spot which will be 1 yard behind centrally of the make-shift goal). Server will stand 5 yards away from GK which can be adjusted) and will serve as instructed - an underarm throw aimed at the nose of the GK (those who are more capable can apply volleying the ball, but will need to create a greater distance between themselves and GK).

6 Repetitions and then swap.

-Element of footwork (figure of 8, forwards/backwards).

Equipment - 2 cones, 1 spot, 1 football (each pair).

Organisation

2 GKs working as a pair, the rest will be strikers. Coaches will serve ball in from the by-line.

GK covers near post to where the coach is serving from.

Coach starts by playing ball in to striker thats furthest away from him.

GK then moves in to line/down the line of the ball using quick footwork.

Server takes a touch at strikes ball at GK - GK reacts with appropriate decision.

Next GK goes from opposite side of goal, GKs rotate positions. Exercise continues until every one has a shot. Next 2 GKs jump in goal - GKs previously will become strikers.

Decisions made - Handling technique - W, basket, scoop etc

- Shot stopping - Catch, deflect, parry.

Progressions - shoot to score.

Equipment - 1 goal (7-a-side at Cwmdu), 12 footballs, 5 spots.
