Warm Up (15 mins)

25yd x 25yd area; 6-players static/no ball; 6-players mobile/with a ball

i) Using inside foot technique, pass to static player and get a return pass (Give & Go)

ii) After 45-sec switch static/mobile players. Use static time to include dynamic stretching

ii) Progress to where static player receives the ball and immediately becomes active, whilst passer becomes static.

iv) Finish warm up with a game of "Fox & Hounds" Players line up at one end of the area without a ball. Soccer balls lined up along side of area. On coaches command, the players (Foxes) have to try and run to other end whilst coach (Hound) uses inside foot technique to try and hit them with the soccer balls below the knees. If they make it across without getting hit, they are still a Fox. IF they do get hit, they become a Hound with the coach. Last player to survive wins!

Coaching Points

1) Technique: Are player striking the right part of the soccer ball with the right part of their foot? Is their body position aiding in accuracy? And is their follow through true to the path of the pass?

2) Receiving the Ball: Do players use 'front foot control'? Is the ball tightly under control after 1st touch to allow a strike on the ball without chasing after it?

3) Communication: Are players calling for the ball? OR preparing players they are passing to by communicating?

Activity One (20 mins)

Using a penalty area; line 6-players by the right-side of the goal with a ball; level with penalty spot and outside goal frame, line 6-players up facing colleagues without a ball.

i) Player A passes the ball (inside foot) to Player B and runs to join line B

ii) Player B attacks the ball and shoots 1st-time using R-Foot back across the goal towards the far right lower corner (where cone is).

iii) Player B then turns, runs around the goal, collects a soccer ball and joins the back of line A.

iv) The speed and repetition of the activity should not allow too much time in lines.

v) Progress by adjusting the cones so that the pass now comes from the left-side of the goal and the shot becomes a L-Footed shot back across goal to the far left lower corner.

Coaching Points

1) Approach: Are players attacking the ball at speed? Is their body position slightly facing the goal? Are they focused on the ball? Remember, the goal doesn't move!!

2) Contact with Ball: Is their foot slightly angled? Are they making solid contact with the middle of the ball? Is the shot staying low? Are the following through after contact? Are they looking at the ball? Does their body momentum carry them beyond point of contact?

3) Movement after the shot: Are players reacting to the change of direction requested by activity to go back around the goal to join line B? Importance:- to prepare them for rebounds or blocked shots to get secondary chance.

3) 1st time shot/goal counts double

Coaching Points

1) Shooting Opportunities: With 3-goals to score in, are players seeing plenty of shooting opportunities? If so, do they take them? If not, why?

2) Confidence: Once a shot presents itself, are players confident in their ability? Are they willing to shoot L-Footed?

3) Secondary Chances: Are rebounds / blocked shots being followed up? Do players create secondary chances to score?
