10x40 yard area (30 yards from first cone to last cone)

Instructions:

FIFA 11 Warm-Up

- Each exercise is ran 2x

- Jog back to the start line - use as recovery

- Try to have each pair be in sync/unison

- Next pair doesn't start until pair in front reaches first cones

1) Simple Jog down.

2) "Open the Gate": Drive knee straight up, then twist rotating out; Alternate legs.

3) "Close the Gate": Knee comes up but at a right angle to the body, then twist rotating inward; Alternate legs.

4) "Circle Partner": Pair runs to first cone, then still facing forward, side shuffle towards each other, going around one another in a tight circle, then shuffle back out to their side of the channel. Run forward to second cone and repeat.

5) "Jump with Shoulder contact": Pair runs to first cone, then still facing forward, side shuffle towards each other, and jump to bump shoulders, land softly and shuffle back out to their side of the channel. Run forward to the second cone and repeat.

6) Sprint to the second cone, decelerate to then backpedal to the first cone; sprint to the third cone, decelerate to then backpedal to the second cone, etc.

7) 75% pace sprint through the channel to opposite end.

8) "Bounding": Drive the knee up as you "jump/bound" across the channel; opposite arm should come up as your knee comes up; each "step" is a new bound (think long-jump strides).

9) "Plant & Cut": Pairs run across one another to the first cone and plant/cut to then go to cone two; zig-zag across one another through the length of the channel

5v2 - Attacking Pass and Move (10 mins)

Setup: Grid is 10x10, or adjusted to suit.

Play begins in a 5v2 rondo, with 4 yellowa on the outside and one

inside, and 2 black defenders inside.

Action: yellows attempt to move the ball successfully among

themselves, while the blacks defend as in a normal rondo.

After 5/7 successive passes is achieved, a player on the outside

may choose to attempt to dribble or combine their way across the

grid to the opposite side (s/he must cross the line). For example,

player 1 attempts to dribble/combine across to player 4's side.

Play should be fluid; upon reaching the other side, play should

immediately continue with a new passing sequence.

If a yellow begins to dribble into the square (and while it happens),

an outside yellow rotates into the dribbler's former spot outside,

while the outside yellow the dribbler replaces moves into the vacant

outside spot. For example, if Player 1 becomes a dribbler, Player 2

or 3 must quickly replace them, while Player 4 must replace player

2/3.

If the yellow player makes it across, yellow is awarded 1 point. If the black win the ball, they are awarded 1 point and the coach begins

play again by playing into yellow . When one team has scored 3/5 points, the blacks are swapped out. Make sure everyone has a

chance to experience all roles.

Coaching points:

-All basics of small possession (open body shape, play to correct foot, receive across body where possible)

-Keen observation by attackers of moment of incision has come

-Manipulation of the defenders by the team in possession to create that moment.

-Efficiency/attention by defenders: maintain contact with inside attacker, be mindful of passing lanes, and be ready for the moment of

incision.

-Instruct the players on visual cues to attempt the incisive dribble/combination: can the inside attacker drag a defender away leaving a

gap open? And does this suggest a dribble opportunity or a combination opportunity?

Progression: Add another black inside, limit touches
