Defending Aerial balls from central and wide areas (15 mins)

1) Kick ball in air. And have players defend by heading it out up and high.

2) Defend crosses. One defender comes out to service and the two defend cross with one attacker in box.

What are the cues to drop and defend? Are you adjusting your feet when the ball comes in? When you are going to the ball, are you communicating? How are we clearing it. What is the response for the defenders?

GU15:Framing The Goal (15 mins)

Framing the Goal activity.

Set-up.

-Played within the 18

-2 attackers

-3 defenders. when ball is wide, defender closest goes out quickly and applies pressure.

-1GK

- two to three shooters at the top of the D with a pile of balls

- Arc of Servers outside the 18, each has a ball.

Main Emphasis: defending. How to deal with crosses. When to step out?

Attitude:

Rules:

Exercise starts with a flank service. Ball is dead when it is in the goal, out of play or cleared over the arc servers who may one touch the ball back into the box.

- One touch restriction for all players outside the box

- When ball is dead, shooter at the top of the "D" takes a two touch shot. When ball is dead, move to the second server and repeat until all players have served from the left to the right.

Midfielders

- Midfielders can have a one touch shot if ball is poorly cleared or redirections from strikers.

Strikers

- Two strikers nearest to the flank service fronts the defender putting themselves in goal scoring positions.

- Third strikers read and reacts to situation

Framing the Goal:

- Central striker positions herself approx 5 yards in front of GK to provide a screen for the shot

- move towards the shot so that no obstruction call is made

- wide strikers move two yards wide of post to redirect any shots going wide.

- finish any shot deflected by the goalkeeper or shanked by defenders

Defensive warm-up: Heading progression.

1) Three defenders, work on side on, dropping at the speed of dribbler, & winning ball (if attacker takes big touch)
