Starting Lineup

Basic 1-4-2-3-1 formation as this has proven to be our strongest formation and gives us the most balance.

**************************************************************************

Our Mindset for this game is a little different than our usual. For me soccer is always all about development and this still remains true. However, President's Cup is a knockout format and we want to win to progress! So our focus is geared towards that.

***************************************************************************

DEFENSIVE UNIT

(#1, #2, #3, #4, #5) (ANDREW, RYAN, ZEBB, BRIAN R, MADDEN, JERRY, HUNTER, COLTON)

APPLY PRESSURE.....RECOVER CENTRALLY!!!!

COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE!!

*We are focusing on a strong defensive shape and mindset today!!

*1 v 1 individual defensive battles are key....YOU MUST WIN THOSE by being patient, focused on position first, ball second.

*Apply pressure to ball, provide cover/support and ensure there is balance across our unit. Move FAST to cover passes and apply that pressure.

*if there is ball penetration, recover centrally

*When the ball goes negative, push higher up the field!!

* keep the play out in front of our defensive line as much as possible so we are not chasing back to our goal.

* Look to play out from the back when clear space is available to us

* Maintain a flattened "U" shape with our #2 & #3 playing a little higher than our CBs so we have the ability to support attacking functions and fill in rotational gaps as play develops.

* Do not allow any balls through the back line centrally....make everything go wide!

*Our LINE OF CONFRONTATION will be about 5yds above the halfway line.

*GK ROLE:

*Be conservative with ball distribution

*Punch aerial balls in the box whenever possible!

 ***************************************************

MIDFIELD UNIT

(#6, #8, #10) (NOAH, JACOB, ERIC, KEVIN, SAM, MARTIN

SEE DEFENSIVE UNIT RESPONSIBILITIES!!!!!!!!

OUR SHAPE IS PARAMOUNT AT ALL TIMES

* How well we shut down the middle of the field with our midfield unit today will determine how well the game goes for us!!!

*WIN YOUR INDIVIDUAL BATTLES

*accurate in our outlet passing to our #10, to our wing players etc

*TECHNICALLY: Ensure we get a good first touch, have our head on a swivel and don't hold onto the ball too long!

*Be very aware of your connectivity and position with regards to each other. Don't get too flat (in a straight line), don't get sucked too deep into the back line (unless rotation requires it).

**************************************************

ATTACKING UNIT

(#7, #9, #10, #11) (BRIAN V, COLTON, ERIC, MADDEN, ERIC, SAM, MARTIN, JERRY)

SEE DEFENSIVE RESPONSIBILITIES!!!!!!!

COUNTER ATTACK WITH SPEED

#9 MUST HOLD THE BALL UP TO ALLOW SUPPORT

* Ensure that our #9 plays as high as possible to take advantage of opportunities in behind their back line!

*DO NOT DRIBBLE THE BALL INTO DEAD CORNERS IN NUMBERS DOWN SITUATIONS. Pull the ball back out and look for support.

*If we get opportunity to attack over the top we take it, otherwise #9 MUST hold up the ball to allow support players to join

*#9 has freedom to apply pressure a little higher than our line of confrontation to put pressure on the ball.

*#7 & #11 must be aware of their defensive responsibilities and shutdown wide area attacks in the middle third of the field.....PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE

*Don't pass up any opportunities to cross the ball and get defensive unit off balance!

IMPORTANT!! *Recognize the trigger for wide players to attack and push high (ball switched into a new channel with ball control and moving forward)

If we end tied, we go to penalty kicks.

Our 5 penalty takers will be: Eric, Brian V, Madden, Martin & Zebb
