Description

Focus: Affecting the player's decision when pressure is approaching them at an angle.

Amount of Pressure: One Defender - Pressure.

Type of Pressure: "Pressure" - Recovering and approaching from an angle / across the attacker's body.

Decisions looking to affect:

1. Ability to identify amount of pressure being applied to the ball, before and after the player receives it.

2. Recognizing space that is being closed down versus space that is available.

Moves: (A) V-Move

Mentality:

Option A - Go to goal. Do I have the opportunity to take the space (later on go to goal)? Can I beat the defender with my first touch?

Option B - Recovering defender. Can I cut in the opposite direction the defender is moving in, to get enter the space they are leaving, and then go to goal?

Technical Repetition: Unopposed to Fully (V-Move) (20 mins)

Organization:

3-4 players per grid

1 Ball in play

Extra balls off to the side

Instructions: (1st Without the ball - Then with)

1. Player A passes the ball to Player B after he/she drifts away to create space and checks back for the ball.

2. Player B receives with the front foot (furthest from the defender) and takes his/her first touch forward while shielding the defender away and using their body movement and shape to their disadvantage.

3. Player B drives across the channel to the opposite side (cone) of where they received the ball, and quickly turns with the ball to return to dribble across the endline the ball started at.

4. Progression 1 - Player B performs a V Move on his/her way back to the endline.

5. Progression 2 - On Player B turn and initial touch to take the ball back towards the endline, Player C will now look to add passive pressure by running towards the opposite (center) cone. Further progression of Semi-Opposed Pressure, Player C will look to tag Player B on the shoulder before he/she crosses the halfway line.

6. Progression 3 - Fully Opposed. Player B looks to dribble across the endline the ball started at for a point. If Player C steals the ball he/she will look to dribble across the endline the ball did not start at, for a point.

Rotation:

Player A > Player C > Player B > Player A

Coaching Points:

1. Vision - Player checking shoulders quickly before and after receiving the ball.

2. Players ability to recognize pressure (tight vs. loose)

3. Selection of foot and surface to receive the ball, based on pressure.

4. Direction of touch.

5. Player's ability to control and manipulate ball away from pressure.

6. Execution of move.

7. Execution of next action - pass/shot.
