Ball Control (5 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-full gymnasium

Players working individually on keeping the ball up in the air.

Variations/Progressions:

-start with ball from hands

-allow bounces and catches in between

Key Points:

-Good agility, balance, coordination - on balls of feet

-Good touch/feel of the ball

ABCs (10 mins)

Organization:

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-area approx. - full gymnasium

-players move in and out of different gates using a variety of locomotion

Possible variations/progressions:

-different locomotion (skipping, running, side-stepping, backwards shuffling, etc)

-different coloured gates required specific movements

-add stability - balancing - one leg, plank, etc

-add ball - catching, bouncing

-make it a timed race

-make it a game of tag

Coaching Points:

-good agility, balance, coordination, speed, strength

-accelerate/rwb into open spaces

-get head up to scan for space, gates, players

Ball Mastery/Dribbling (15 mins)

-players dribble in and out of different gates using a variety of ball mastery and 1v1 moves

Possible variations/progressions:

-different ball mastery (toe-taps, insides, ball boxing, sole rolls) and moves (CoD, fakes/feints, stops/starts)

-different coloured gates required specific movements

-make it a timed race

-create 1v1s

Coaching Points:

-close control and moves

-accelerate/rwb into open spaces

-get head up to scan for space, gates, players

-use of both feet and all surfaces of feet

Passing (15 mins)

-in pairs, the players pass and move through the different gates

-start staionary at one gate

-move to different gates

-use dominant/non-dominant foot

-add roaming defenders

Coaching Points:

-accuracy and weight of pass

-good first touch when receiving

-body position when receiving

-technque/part of foot when passing

-communication with partner

-movement without the ball

2v2 (15 mins)

Organization:

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-area approx. - full gymnasium (or half if doing 2 games)

-play starts with one team's player passing diagonally across to the opposition and moving to close them down. The player receiving the ball will start to dribble, the other two team mates that were off the ball both make runs around the side of the game and in - no creating 2v2. A goal is scored when a team mate passes the ball through a gate (either direction) to their team mate to control.

Possible variations/progressions:

-start 1v1

-have different gates count for different points

Coaching Points:

-good communication with partner

-quick-decision-making

-good movement without the ball to be in position to receive the pass

-all technical points from session
