Warmup (10 mins)

Organization:

20 x 30 Grids

12 players set up as shown

6 balls

Instructions:

1. Defending players run out together as a pair and mirror each others movements.

2. Players should run with big strides up to the cone and then small trides into the ball, this replicates going quickly then slowing down.

3. Players return to their starting position and repeat.

Coaching Points:

1. Speed of approach

2. Angle of approach

3. Body position

Progression:

(P1) - Have players touch the ball with the hand to ensure they are low to the ground and are maintaining good body shape.

Technical (20 mins)

Organization:

5 x 5 x 5 yard area, set up as shown

2 players (1 Attacker, 1 Defender) set up as shown

1 Ball

Instructions:

1v1 to Triangle

1. Attacking player starts with the ball and attempts to dribble through the triangle with the ball.

2. The defending player attempts to protect the triangle, deny penetration and win the ball.

3. Attacking player has five attempts and then the players switch roles.

Coaching Points: (1) Deny penetration. (2) Speed of approach. (3) Angle of approach, force player on to weak side. (4) Tackling techniques.

Progression - Increase the space of the target area to 10 x 10 x 10 yards

Regression - Reduce the space of the target area to 2 x 2 x 2 yards

1v1 + Server to Triangle

1. Add 1 Server.

2. Serving player starts with the ball and plays into the attacking player.

3. The attacking player attempts to receive the ball and dribble through the triangle.

4. The defending player attempts to protect the triangle, deny penetration and win the ball.

5. Attacking player has five attempts and then each player switches roles, server to attack, attacker to defender, defender to server.

Coaching Points: (1) Interceptions - starting position. (2) Deny penetration - prevent player from turning. (3) Feint to tackle to force a mistake. (4) Correct moments to tackle

Progression - Allow attacker to play back to server to combine.

Regression - Allow defending player to mark attacking player befroe the ball arrives.

1v1 to gates (25 mins)

Organization:

20 x 15 yard area setup as shown

4 players (2 Attackers, 2 Defenders) set up as shown

1 Ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Defending player starts with the ball.

2. Defending player passes into the attacking player.

3. The attacking player moves out to receive the ball and attempts to beat the defender and dribble through one of the two scoring gates situated on the defender endline.

4. Defending player becomes active on the attacker's first touch and attempts to win the ball.

5. Players rotate roles after each attempt.

6. Award points for successful attempts and keep score.

Coaching Points:

1. Deny penetration

2. Speed of approach

3. Angle of approach, force the player on to the weak side

4. Correct moments to tackle

5. Faint to tackle and force a mistake

6. Tackling techniques

Progressions / Regressions:

(P1) - If the defender wins the ball they now can score by dribbling through the attacker's gates.

(R1) - Defending players become active on their pass

(R2) - Second player behind the defender steps into one of the two gates.
