Passing & Receiving to Goal (10 mins)

Set up grid approx. 30 yds wide x 35 yds long. Play begins with pass into receivers front foot, follow the pass. Receiving player then receives ball on forward foot with positive first touch and then passes to next play, follow the pass. Third player receives ball and then takes a shot. Get ball from goal and repeat process, switching lines. Play is continuous.

Coaching Points:

1.Body shape and position in order to receive pass with positive first touch.

2.Receive ball on Forward/Front foot in order to have a positive first touch.

3.Pass using inside of foot, locking the ankle, and plant food aimed at intended target.

2 v 2 + Neutral to 4 Goals (20 mins)

Using same grid as above, split field into thirds with a neutral player (always attacking) that must stay in the middle third.

Attacking team must combine with Neutral player before going to goal.

Play 4 minute bouts and then switch teams. Keep high tempo. Make more competitive with winning team staying on.

Coaching Points:

1.When do we check and ask for the ball? Visual Clues - eye contact, head comes up, touch away from their feet, etc.

2.Attacking shape/support. Angles, Distance, and Speed of Support.

3.Body shape and positioning for positive first touch.

5 v 5 to Goal (20 mins)

Half field is split into thirds. Teams will play 5v5 to goal. When team is attacking, must receive ball by a player in the middle third of field before going to goal.

Progression/Variation:

Goal=1 point

Goal from Combination Play = 5 points

Coaching Points:

1.Can we create space? Attacking shape?

2.Body shape for positive first touch.

3.When, where, and why to pass? Decision making.
