Warm up (15 mins)

4v4 (5v5) Keep away

Set Up: 20 x 20 grid, 8yd triangle in the middle.

Procedure:

1. Players play keep away while looking to score on either side of the triangle.

2. Goalie works on shot stopping.

3. Defending team wins the ball and looks to score.

Coaching points:

1. Shooting technique.

2. Attacking shape and principals.

3. Defending principals.

4. Encourage lots of shooting.

Individual (15 mins)

Rossi Crossing and Finishing:

Set up: 3 cones set up in the "danger zone" with a player at each. 3 other cones set up for lines of attackers. Cones set out wide for crossing line.

Procedure:

1. Crossing player dribble beyond cone and takes a touch to near post to cross the ball into the danger zone.

2. Three players compete to finish the cross first time.

3. Players rotate from lines 1 --> 4.

4. Switch sides.

Coaching points:

Technical for striking the ball, quality of runs, quality of the cross, touch to near post to get hips set.

Game Related (20 mins)

Competitive Shooting:

Set up: Half of a soccer field.

Procedure:

1. Player on the end finds central player who has worked out and in.

2. Outside mid checks to and spins away down line.

3. Central player plays to the outside mid who crosses in to the two forwards.

4. Forwards make near and far post runs.

5. Rotate server to 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 and other line.

6. Progressions - add defenders in the box. add defenders on the outside mid.

Coaching points:

Quality of service, checking in/out vs out/in, far and near post runs (diagonal vs bent).

Final Activity (15 mins)

Shooting Wars

Set up: Two flags 12 yards apart, two cones 12 yards apart and 15 yards away from flags. Split up players evenly.

Procedure:

1. Player shoots at 1.

2. Shooter runs to 2 and waits to become their teams next goalie.

3. After opponent is shot on waiting player goes to keeper.

4. After goalie, return to the shooting line with a ball.

Progressions: both feet, dribble from different spots.

Coaching points:

Shooting technique.
