W/out the Ball (10 mins)

Organization:

4 players per grid

No Balls

Area set up as shown

Dimensions vary on work to rest ratio desired.

Instructions:

Part 1

1. Player A is looking to get a point in one of the two corner gates without being tagged by the opposing player in the center of the area.

2. If the defender tags the attacker on the shoulder before he or she is able to score, the defender earns one point.

3. Target CP - (a) Approaching the defender straight on to allow the attacking player two options, to go left/right; (b) Change of Speed/Direction; (c) Use of the body to sell the move by exaggerating movements

Part 2

1. Same as before, however the defender is now restricted to the midline where he/she can only move side to side to tag the attacking player.

2. This will allow the attacker more time under less pressure to break down the move, and read the defender.

3. Instead of running through one of the two corner gates at the end, the attacker must cut back inside and give the target player a high five.

4. Target CP - (a) Player's mentality to get pass the defender as quick as possible. (b) Recognizing the defender's movement to close down the space between them and the attacker. (C) Recognizing the defenders body shape - hips facing forward vs. angled to the side, in which case players then identify their positioning as the moment to change direction and cut the opposite way.

Coaching Points:

Please see "Instructions - Part 1 - # 3" and "Instructions - Part 2 - # 4"

Progressions:

(P1) - During the Part 2, have the players grab a pinny and tuck it into their shorts show that it is still exposed near their hips. Players will continue to play with the previous rules in place but now be more cognizant of where they placed their pinny and if it is exposed to the defender as they exit/execute their move. Then allow the defender to steal the pinny for a point instead of tagging the attacker on the shoulder. At the end of the activity ask the players what could the pinny represent. And if it is the ball are you showing it to the defender as you try to execute your move.

Technical Repetition: Unopposed / Semi (30 mins)

Organization:

4 players per grid

1 Ball in play

Extra balls off to the side

Instructions:

Unopposed

1. Players are divided evenly on each endline.

2. To start one player will dribble out at a time to work on executing the move for that day.

3. Once they reach the other endline they will give the next player a high five to initiate their run.

4. To increase tempo of activity - (a) allow the next player to start their run after the player with the ball has executed the move and made eye contact with the endline player; (b) allow two players to go at a time working in the same direction to avoid collision.

Semi-opposed (Part 1+2)

1. Two players will start in the middle of the grid (one receiving - one defending) with one endline player on each end.

2. The receiving player will drag the defender back and check to the opposite side of the trigger touch.

3. The player then receives the ball on the back foot and passes it to the opposite endline player.

4. The defender in the center of the field sets back on the midline after allowing the receiving player to pass to the target on the endline.

5. The target will then drive at the defender 1v1 and attempt to cross the endline infront of them using the move we've work on.

6. The defender is restricted to staying on the midline and is only allowed to move side to side.

Defenders are restricted to the channel in the center of the field, until the outside player enters and passes it to another teammate.

4. Player who receives it on the outside will look to drive into the center of the field (/channel) and score on goal, if the opportunity is available.

5. If the player does not have an opportunity to go quickly to goal, due to pressure, he/she will look to utilize one of the moves we've worked on this week.

CP - What is the advantage / disadvantage of using the Inside-Outside verse Inside-Scissor? Is the player looking to cut into the field (center to the goal) or cut away and get enough space to shoot across the goal?
