Ball Mastery Squares (10 mins)

Ball Manipulation Squares

Set up like above, each player with a ball.

Players will be staying in their area and practicing dribbling with different parts of their foot - laces, inside, outside, bottom. What we looked for from this was players trying to make as many touches as possible in order to ensure close control and tight dribbling. We wanted players to not just go in a linear pattern but to go different directions with their ball. We also wanted players to develop their scissors move so we broke it down and gave them plenty of time to practice it and develop it from doing it to stationary and to on the move.

Duration: 25/30

1 v 1 Chaos Game

Set up 4 groups like above, if you have small goals great, this practice can also be used with coned goals or even played to end lines. Red player 1 will pass the ball to blue player 1 who will attack the goal ahead. Once the blue player 1 has taken their 1st touch red 2 will pass the ball to blue 2 who will attack the goal ahead. This practice takes some goes to get right but I like it because there is so much going on with 4 players in a small area at once. This practice is good with big numbers as it reduces waiting time.

Coaching Points: Be aware of what is around you, keep the ball moving, use a move to give you space to shoot

Progressions: Add spot markers as halfway lines and challenge players to score in certain halves
