Juggling / Pop challenge

Instructions:

1. Allow players to practice juggling.

2. Coach demonstrates which surface he/she would like the players to use (laces) and allows players to practice by bouncing the ball on the ground first and trying to pop the ball back up to his/her hands.

3. If this becomes to easy for the players then ask them to pop the ball before it touches the ground.

Progression:

(P1) - Pop Challenge: Players must pop the ball back up to their hands using their laces, and have to control the ball so that it doesn't go higher than their heads.

1. For the challenge the players must pop the ball up to their hands with his/her right foot, then catch it, afterwards pop the ball with their left foot and catch it (level 1).

2. After completing level 1, players must then pop the ball twice on each leg, catching it, and then finish by alternating the legs, so that the ball pops on the right and then the left.

3. If the ball is dropped, player starts back at level zero.

4. Players try to beat their latest level, or his/her peer's level.

Example: (Level 1) Right foot - pop - catch, Left foot - pop - catch; (Level 2) Right foot - 2x pop - catch, Left foot - 2x pop - catch, Right + Left foot - 1 pop in between each - catch; etc.

Developmental Repititions (20 mins)

Organization:

10 x 15

Instructions:

A - Players dribble out to center line and the perform a Inside Cut. After turning they return to start line and partner goes. Process repeats. Progress to Cryuff.

B - Players dribble out and perform a 'Stop Start (Fake Cruyff) at the center line and then accelerate to the endline at which point the next player does the same. Process repeats. Progress to a Cruyff'.

Coaching Points:

1. Pinky toe to dribble

2. Keep ball close, touch on every step

3. Correct execution of turn and stop start

4. Ball out of feet

5. Head up after turn/stop start

6. Accelerate out of turn/stop start

Progressions:

(P1) - Use weaker foot on every other go

Semi to Fully Opposed (25 mins)

Organization:

10 x15

6 players per grid

Each with a ball

Instructions:

(Without and then with a ball going to goal)

1. The first Blue players tries to race and fake the Yellow defender out in order to get into one of the two zones. Marked in orange.

2. If the Blue player is successful at faking the Yellow defender and enters the zone, alone, he/she gets a point.

3. But if the Yellow defender catches up to the Blue player and enters the zone at the same time of the Blue player, he/she gets the point.

4. Roles switch

Progression:

1. Blue team start by passing over to the player in blue.

2.The two go 1v1 with blue able to score in either goal.

3. Keep playing until a goal is scored or the ball goes out and then repeat with the next two players.

4. Players can only shoot once they are between the goal and the orange cones (Shooting zone). Swap over attackers and defenders after two minutes.

5. Defender is live on blue's first touch.

Coaching Points:

1. Quality of first touch (Direction - towards goal, Weight)

2. Awareness of defender's position

3. Be positive, attack goal if possible

4. Decision, Turn or Stop start to lose the defender (Scenarios from warm up)

5. Protect the ball with your body at all times

6. Finish!

Progression/Regressions:

(P1) - Flip Goals to face outwards

(R1) - Defender is only allowed to tackle once in the middle area

Free play (25 mins)

Depending on numbers and the size of the field we will either play 7v7, 6v6, or have a 3v3 tournament.
