SAQ (Speed, Agility & Quickness)

Aim: To improve players speed, agility and their ability to move dynamically.

Drill: Players are given different movements through the ladder e.g. single step in ladder, two steps in ladder, sideways etc.

Once the player moves through the ladder the coach plays them a pass, the player dribbles towards goal and strikes the ball into the goal.

Key Points: The focus during the fast feet phase is on the player being light on their feet and executing the skill with fast, controlled movements.

The focus for the first touch phase is getting the ball out of their feet to the side and making an accurate pass back to the coach.

Some groups will use cones or poles instead of ladders. The drill still follows the same focus.

Technique Cirlce

Aim: To develop players control and technique to allow them to become more comfortable on the ball.

Drill: Players are split into even groups, one group on the outside with a ball and one in the middle without a ball. Players in the middle are the ones performing the exercise and the players on the outside are the servers.

Coach progresses through different activities including passing, volleying, dribbling and passing etc.

Key Points: Players are encouraged to use work on both of their feet in order to improve their ball control.

Players should work on activities at game speed once confident in order to make the skills game related.

Focus on developing correct technique and body shape.

Pass and Shoot

Aim: Improve the shooting technique and accuracy of each player.

Drill: Players are split into even groups and sent to either side of the goal. The first player in the line is the only one without a ball. The player at the front of the line makes a run out and around the cone, the second player in line plays a pass in front of the player as the round the cone. The attacker takes a touch to control the ball and then shoots at the goal.

This is then repeated on the other side. Players are swapped after a few goes and encouraged to use their other foot.

Key Points: Players work on using their laces to strike the ball.

The first touch of the player needs to be out in front of them and towards the goal so that they are set up for the shot.

Encourage players to work on both feet.

Multi Goal Game

Aim: Develop player’s positional awareness and movement to allow them to get into shooting positions.

Drill: Players are split into two sides. Players have three goals to aim at, which will encourage them to move the ball in order to create space for a shot. If not enough shooting is occurring an extra ball can be added of a joker put in place.

Players can only shoot once they are in the shooting zone (blue line).

Key Points: Encourage players to focus on correct technique and accuracy.

Encourage communication and movement to create space.
