Back 4 Attack - Playing RCB (5 mins)

Objective: This session will explore the idea of playing the ball out from the back with the focus being the RCB.

Method of Play:

1: GK plays ball to RCB who is on edge of 18 yard box

2 RCB whilst being pressed by blue striker plays ball into LCM who has dropped off in field to create an angle to receive the ball attempting to create enough space between himself and the Blue RCM to receive the ball and quickly turn.

3. LCM receives the ball

4. ST makes slight movement towards ball to create space to receive – focus on RCM playing opposite the ball pulling the blue LCM away from the play to create space for the ST.

5. LCM has choice to make – if RCM has moved away creating space the possibility is available to play the RCM the ball otherwise LCM looks to play heavy into the striker’s feet who has made an angle for the LCM due to the space the RCM has created.

Reference to other players:

LCB on edge of box – once established ball is played to RCB come in side to create potential option if LCM is under pressure as being pressed by blue RCM and possibly ST.

RB and LB high up the park- use each other as reference point

RCM uses LCM as reference – RCM should always be playing opposite the ball to create a distance between CM’s to create space for the heavy ball into the ST feet.

RM and LM when ST takes first touch get inside and support to continue play going forward - drill will stop dead at ST feet but important to educate the wingers of their movement so in game they are in a well practiced routine to support st holding ball up.

Important factors: Weight of pass from GK, RCB first touch – positive (forward) away from the ST pressing.

LCM timing of run to receive ball and timing of RCM run away from the ball

ST movement to create angle and hold off CB

Back 4 Attack - Playing LB (5 mins)

Objective: This session will explore the idea of playing the ball out from the back with the focus being the LB

Method of Play:

1: GK Looks to play ball into either CB but both are marked by ST

2. CB tuck in and move high up park (just about in line with RB/LB)

3. RB and LB movement to in line with edge of box on touchline

4. GK plays into LB feet

5. LB takes a left footed positive touch down the line and drives down field

6. LB plays in LCM who plays the ball round the back to the LM

7. LM drives ball over half way line

Reference to other players:

RB on opposite wing – once established ball is played to LB come up the park staying in line with LB. Be ready to come inside if drill breaks down and team loose position.

CBS – RB as reference point, once he has passed you bring the line up as a team

RCM uses LCM as reference – RCM should always be playing opposite the ball to create a potential infield option to switch the play if the blue RM and RCM double up on the pass between red LB and LM

Important factors: Weight of pass from GK, timing of RB and LB run to create option when CBs come in field, awareness of winger to make angle from fullback, LB good first touch down line
