Warm Up - Dribbling (20 mins)

Shadow

Organization:

1.20 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2.12 players (groups of 2) set up as shown

3.12 balls

Story/Description:

1.Coach starts off the activity by getting the player to wave at their shadow on the floor, and then by challenging the players to loose their shadow by running around in different directions and at different speeds

2.Coach then puts the players in pairs, with one being the shadow and the other being the player attempting to lose their shadow

3.The shadow has 30 seconds to stay in touching distance of the runner before the coach yells “FREEZE”

4.The shadow then turns to face their partner who must attempt to pass their ball through the their partners legs

5.Players then rotate roles

Coaching Points:

1.Use different movements and speeds to get away from the shadow

2.Try to keep your eye on the runner so you know where they are going

Developments:

1.P – The shadow now has no ball

2.R – Each player starts without a ball

1v1 Main theme (20 mins)

Organization:

- 2 pugg goals

- As many balls as possible

- 2x 3 yard gates 1 yard apart

Instructions:

- Defenders will pass the ball through the blue gate to the attackers. Play is live on attacker’s touch

- It will be a 1v1, Attackers must try to perform a scissor or a step-over to try and beat the defender and score in either one of the goals.

- Once play is over (attacker scores or defender kicks it out), go back to respective lines. After a couple turns switch sides.

Coaching Points:

- Use ball mastery techniques to evade/fake out defenders

- Use defenders own body weight/momentum against themselves

Free Play/Scrimmage (25 mins)

Organization: two 20 by 20 fields

4 teams of 5 players( 20 total players)

1 ball per game(additional on the outside)

Instructions: Teams play small sided games 5 v 5

Normal game rules apply (corner kicks, goal kicks, throw-ins, etc.)

If goal is scored, ball is now opposing team's ball

If goal is scored, scoring team must have all their players run back and touch their goal, before being allowed to defend

Play for a set time and then rotate teams

Coaching Points:-weight/accuracy of pass

-head up

-correct technique

-depth and width(spacing)

Visual Cues:--distance between defender & attacker(is defender pressing or delaying?)

-defenders body language(does defender come out with speed, straight on, angle, etc?)

-distance between attacking players(how much weight is on my pass?)
