SAQ (10 mins)

Organization:

-13 cones. 1 area setup cones staggered 3 yards side to side, front to back. 1 area setup cones in line with 1.5 feet spacing between cones.

Instructions:

- Go twice through each time. Switch lines after each run through.

Coaching Points:

- Running the knees and light on our feet not stomping down. Balance and control of body.

Progressions:

Cone line:

(1). 2 feet in each

(2). Weave through shuffling side to side.

(3). 2 forward, 1 back through end.

(4). Around each cone figure 8s through the end.

Staggered:

(1). Side to side shuffling.

(2). Hopping 2 feet 1 forward, 1 back to the side.

(3). Hopping with control 1 cone to the next side to side (slow).

(4). Side to side but run around each cone.

Warm up activity (10 mins)

Organization: as shown

Instructions:

player with ball attacker. without ball- defender.

attacker picks a side and has to stop ball at cone.

defender has to step on cone before the attacker gets there.

attacker gets 2 changes of direction to try and score.

Whoever gets to the cone first gets the point. Tie goes to defender.

Recognize speed and distance of touches

Main Activity: 1v1 Defending (30 mins)

Organization:

-Two 20x20 grids

-Half of players need soccer balls on one side of the grid.

Instructions:

-1v1 defending in each grid, red passes to blue, blue dribbles in.

-Defender must stop the attacker from bringing the ball across line.

-Switch lines.

Coaching Points:

(1). Technique** High to low (upright to crouched, Fast to Slow (close player down quickly and slow down on approach), Angle on (body shape dictating attacker's movement).

Conditioned game (15 mins)

Organization: As shown. Adjust teams based on numbers.

Instructions: Blue team win ball back and play in to either mini goal for a point. White team score on the goal for a point.

The game (25 mins)

Organization: 45x60 field. 2 GK or can play to pug goals with no GK. 6 v 6 or 5 v 5 depending on numbers. 14 cones. Balls at center field on sideline with coach. Add neutral player if uneven numbers.

Instructions: Throw ins, goal kick, and corner kicks on out of bounds. Have players keep track of goals scored.

Coaching Points: Let them play. Less feedback. Few points reinforcing good habits in the flow.
