Sprint Burst

Organization:

-5 cones

-7x7 grid with 1 cone in the middle

-1 ball per player

Instructions:

-Start with ball on cone A

-Dribble around cone B, stop ball halfway and run towards C

-Run around cone C towards cone D

-Turn corner on cone D and run towards cone B to retrieve ball

-Continue dribbling around Cone B towards cone E

-Dribble around cone E then back to Cone A

Coaching Points:

-Acceleration and Deaccerlation

-Explosive movement on turns

-Low center of gravity at the point of changing direction

-Close ball control while on the run

Progression:

-Fitness purposes – without ball x6 reps

Warm Up

Organization:

-Set of cones

-1 ball

-3 player

-7x7x7 triangle

Instructions:

-Player A passes to player B

-Player B passes to player C

-Player C passes to player A

-Continue flow

-First rotation players receive ball with inside of the foot

-Second rotation players receive ball with outside of the foot

-Reverse rotation after two minutes

Coaching Points:

-Inside Foot-Step to the side of the ball with the non kicking foot then pivot on that foot and push ball away with the inside of the opposite foot

-Outside Foot-Take a big step past the ball and plant foot then pivot on that foot and push the ball with the outside of the opposite foot

-Check away to create space

-Time check in run

-Receive pass with the back foot

-Create verbal and non-verbal cues

-Pick head up, be aware of spatial awareness before receiving pass

Progression:

-2 touch restriction

Main Theme

Organization:

-12 balls

-8 players 2 groups

-15x15 area

-1 pinnie

Instructions:

-Attacking team must maintain possession inside the grid away from defender

-Defenders must dribble out of the grid after winning the ball to take a posession away from attacking team

-Switch defenders after 1 or 2 minutes

***Scoring Rubric: Each team is given 5 possessions (balls). Once one ball goes out of play or defender dribbles out of the grid attacking team must play with a new ball, which now leaves attacking team with 4 balls. Each team works to keep as many possessions as possible. Add time limit if needed

Coaching Points:

-Same as warm up

-Provide mobility

-Provide supporting angles

-Playing in a triangular system

-Constantly picking head up, reading situation and anticipating next play

Progression:

-2 touch restriction

-Lower the number of possessions (balls) down to 3 or 1

Conditioning Game

Organization:

-20x30 Grid

-8 players; 2 groups

-Create two gates on each end line 5 yards wide

-Supply of balls

-Set of pinnies

Instructions:

-Teams play 3v3 plus one target player on the otherside of gates

-Teams earn a point by connecting pass to their respected target player in either gate

-Once a team has a scored the ball starts with the opposing team

-First team to 10 goals wins

-Switch target players every 2 minutes

Coaching Points:

-Same as warm up

-Receiving ball in supporting angles

-Turn with the ball into open space

-Pick head and see the space ahead

-Verbal and non-verbal communication

-Posses with a purpose

Progressions:

-2 touch restriction
