Intro Games

The players are split 3v3/3v4/4v4. Pitches are short and narrow (20 x 15 mtrs).

To introduce the topic of retaining possession in tight areas the blues must make 4 passes before they can score, the reds can score as soon as they wish. This will increase the intensity of pressure on the ball and keep the tempo high. In turn, stretching and improving decision making.

Rotate roles for teams.

To finish play the 1 up game. If a team has a goal lead they cannot score again. Their aim is to retain possession and try to ensure their opponents do not score.

Part Practice

The pitch is set up with 4 corner boxes and a central box. There is a Target Player at each end, who plays between the two corner boxes and a 3v2 in the central box with 4v4 surrounding.

To score a goal a team must play the ball to their Target Player in one of the corner boxes, after they have played through the central box. The team of 3 must link 2 consecutive passes in the middle before they can score, the team of 2 must link at least 1 pass before they can score.

Rotate player roles.

To progress allow a rotation of the Target Player and allow players to move freely across the whole pitch. Again, to score there must be a linked pass in the middle. If the ball goes out of play the coach plays in immediately to retain high tempo.

Player Challenges;

Can you try to play as many 1 or 2 touch passes as possible

Receive the ball in the tightest areas possible

Find as many opportunities to pass to space as you can
